Dr Muammer Kantarci,
Member of Board, TUVASAS General Directorate of Turkish State Railways-TCDD Dr.Muammer KANTARCI was born in town of Amasya in 22.10.1952. He finished Amasya High School in 1970.After high school he won ISTANBUL TECHNICAL UNIVERSTY, DEPARTMENT OF MECHANICAL ENGINEERING. He finished Aircraft Engineering in 1974 and got a bachelor of degree on and got master of science Aircraft Engineering in 1977 .He finally got a Ph.D on mechanical engineering in 1982 and finished his education.
His working life started by working for Sümerbank. His worked as a management chief, a planning chief at planning department between the years of 1974 -1977 at Sümerbank. He studied on the field of Technology Selection and Transfering and Project Preparing , Evaluating and Management during his education. He prepared totaly 10 investment projects upon his education sessions. He started working for ITU (Istanbul Technical University) in 1977 after being successful at the exam and started post-graduate. He completed his military service as a reserve officer after finished his post-graduate. He was the head of engineering, R&D manager and factory manager at a private automotive industry 1983 -1987. He worked as an assistant manager of some leading Foreign Trade companies in Turkey between 1987-1992. He run his own business between 1992-1994 .Then he was appointed to IETT (İstanbul Electrical ,Tramway and Tunel Public Transport Company) as the General Director in 1994. He left from İETT to manage an investment to be done in Turkey with a group of American businessmen in June,1997. He sat up the American-Turkish Joint Venture Company and run as a director in 1997-2001. Since the economic crise blew out in 2001 the Joint Venture Company finished its activities and he left and went to Bulgaria. He run a company belonged to a Turkish businessman and worked for two years as General Manager and Vice President of Board Directors until May 2003. He came back to Turkey as Turkish Goverment offered him to work in his motherland and was promoted toTÜLOMSAŞ (Turkish Locomotive and Engine Industries, Inc. as General Manager. He updated the licence agreement with General Motor, so TCDD started producing the most powerful locomotives it had ever done. The turnover of Tülomsaş was 60 million Turkish liras then it took off 300 miilion Turkish liras during his period. The mayor of İstanbul (IBB) suggested to Prime Minister to get him work for İstanbul Metropolitan Municipality as a second time and he was promoted to IETT as general manager. He worked about 2 years. He completed and started some metro project, and bought 500 hundred units of low flour buses and METROBUS during two years. At the beginnig of 2006, he retireed because of health reasons. He took part as a speaker and panalist at Public Transport , High Speed Train and UITP conferences and had many duties there. He was the representative for Turkey at International Transportation, UITP and UIC conferences. He is now a member of board at TUVASAŞ. He is married with 3 children. His english level is advanced. His Bulgarian is ıntermediate level.
He has many papersand articles published academicly in English.
