Simon has over a decade of experience in energy markets in both the West Australian and National Electricity Market. Currently Simon is the Programme Director for Synergy's Carbon Ready Programme, designed to ensure Synergy's preparation for Australias Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme. This involved the executions of a transaction with the Forest Products Commission of WA for carbon permits. Simon is a key participant in Synergy's procurement of energy having negotiated the power purchase agreement for the 330 MW gas fired Neerabup Power Station with NewGen which commenced operations in late 2009. Simon's focus is now centred on encouraging renewable power projects in WA. Before joining Synergy, Simon worked for Ergon Energy in QLD where worked in the network, retail and business developed departments where his achievements ranged from managing electricity pricing to the development of a number of medium scale power stations.
