Mr Michael Jack, speaking at Power & Electricity World New Zealand

Mr Michael Jack,
Project Leader - Roturua
Scion

Michael Jack is a scientist Scion (formerly Forest Research) in Rotorua and leads the strategic theme: low-carbon technologies there. One of the focus points of Scion’s research is the development of the potential of forest-based biomass as a renewable energy resource in New Zealand. Dr Jack obtained his PhD in Theoretical Physics from the University of Auckland. He has worked as a research scientist in university and industrial research laboratories in Japan and the US, before returning to NZ. His current research interests include the environmental sustainability of liquid biofuels, thermodynamic analysis and optimisation of bioenergy systems, woody biomass resources, energy-efficiency and energy system modelling. Dr Jack has presented at a number of national and international meetings on bioenergy. He serves on the executive committee of the International Energy Agency Bioenergy research collaboration (IEA Bioenergy) and has recently developed a research strategy for bioenergy in New Zealand.
