Mr Don Elder,
Chief Executive Officer
Solid Energy

Don did his BE (Hons) at Canterbury University and his Ph.D. in Engineering at Oxford University on a Rhodes Scholarship. He worked in the UK, the US and NZ from 1986 to 1990 then from 1990 to 2000 was Vice-President of one of Canada’s premier engineering firms. He returned to NZ as CEO of Solid Energy in May, 2000. Don is a Director of ASB Bank, and has a number of past and current directorships of companies and business organisations in New Zealand, Canada and internationally. He is Chair (from November 2008) of the World Coal Institute, the global organisation of the world’s major coal producers. He is a Fellow of IPENZ.
