Dr Philip Sager,
formerly Vice president and Head Cordio Pulmonary and Metabolic Clinical Department
Gilead

Dr. Sager is VP, Clinical Research and Head of CV/Metabolic Clinical Development at Gilead Sciences. Prior to joining Gilead he was the Chief Medical Officer of CardioDx, a molecular diagnostics company, Executive Director at AstraZeneca, responsible for worldwide development programs, and a director at the Schering-Plough Research Institute. He played critical roles in the development of Crestor, Vytorin, Zetia, and the anti-platelet agent Brilinta (ticagrelor). Dr. Sager has also been the ICH Expert Working Group PhRMA Topic Leader on the QT interval initiative (ICH E14) and is the co-Chair of the Scientific Oversight Committee of the FDA-sponsored Cardiac Safety Research Consortium, where he is also on the Executive Committee. Before joining the pharmaceutical industry, Dr. Sager was a tenured faculty member in cardiology at the UCLA School of Medicine and Director of the Arrhythmia Service at the West Los Angeles Veterans Affairs Medical Center. He has published over 150 scientific manuscripts and abstracts and completed his undergraduate education at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and his medical education and medical training in internal medicine and cardiology at the Yale University School of Medicine. He is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology, the American Heart Association, the American College of Physicians, and the Heart Rhythm Society. Dr. Sager is a member of Alpha Omega Alpha and Phi Beta Kappa.
