Professor Thomas Martin commenced as Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research) at Australian Catholic University (ACU) in October 2009, and is the senior executive responsible for ACU Research and the Public Policy Institute. Professor MartinÂ’s academic field is biomedicine where his scholarly record includes publications in neurotoxicology, biomedical implants and orthopaedics, diabetes and analgesia. He is on the editorial board of the Journal of Comparative Medicine and the Journal of the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science. He is a board-certified specialist in comparative medicine in Australia and in the USA, and holds degrees in veterinary medicine, pathology, a PhD and MBA, (all) from the University of Sydney. Professor Martin has recently returned from 12 years in the USA where he was Professor of Pathology at the State University of New York, and most recently, Associate Vice President (Research) and Professor of Clinical Pathology at Columbia University, New York for 6 years. His focus is management of research and optimization of research outcomes.
