Dr Bob Tebb, speaking at Bus Rapid Transit World Europe 2010

Dr Bob Tebb,
Operations Technical Manager
First Group, United Kingdom

Dr Bob Tebb has spent his entire professional career in public transport, initiallyworking for the Transport & Road Research Laboratory before moving to WestYorkshire PTE in 1980, where he worked on the potential for the reintroduction oftrolleybuses, as well as determining the patronage and revenue consequences offares changes. In the mid-1980s he managed the local rail network for the PTE. At bus deregulation in 1986, Bob moved across to the newly privatised YorkshireRider bus company, now part of First Group, managing the central operations function before taking on a development role. He established here most of the parameters for introducing what is today known as BRT, also becoming involved in the commercial opportunities created by the rail privatisation process and developing bids for light rail schemes in Leeds, Nottingham, Croydon, and other cities. Bob thus became a leading exponent of guided bus in Britain throughout itsactive commercial development. He has been instrumental in its developmentand application from concept creation through technical evaluation, legal powers, applying appropriate technologies to solve individual problems, vehicle andinfrastructure equipment development, tendering, construction and system commissioning, staff training and continuous in-service operation for nearly 20years. More recently, Bob has been an active member of the teams implementing BRTschemes such as Swansea ftrmetro and Cambridgeshire Guided Busway.
