Chief Executive Officer Mango Airlines Nico Bezuidenhout has been at the helm of low cost airline Mango since its launch on 30 October 2006. Under Bezuidenhout’s leadership Mango has introduced a string of firsts in the South African aviation industry; including being the first airline to distribute tickets through general grocery retailers (600 Shoprite, Checkers and Checkers Hyper stores), acceptance of retail store credit as tender and developing business travel products within the low cost model. In its two years, Mango also received several awards, including Best African Low Cost Carrier at Dubai’s World Travel Awards in 2007, two successive PRISM Awards for its PR and communication and a Budgie Award for marketing excellence. The Airports Company of South Africa also awarded Mango three Feather Awards for excellence in aviation and service levels for the same period.
Prior to taking the reins at Mango, Bezuidenhout headed the team responsible for South African Airways’ foray into e-commerce. He was responsible for the carrier’s online strategy, delivering one of the flag carrier’s largest commercial successes in recent years.
Bezuidenhout started his career as Merchandising Director for Big Concerts, overseeing several international artists’ tours of South Africa including INXS, Michael Jackson and U2 among others. His stint in the live event arena led him into launching the first online ticketing agency in the country, Ticketweb, where he occupied the position of Chief Operating Officer.
