Congratulations to PanAust for being recognized as the 3rd annual Sustainability Awards Winner for Best Community Development Initiative!

On behalf of our esteemed judging panel comprising Kathryn McPhail (ICMM), Karsten Fuelster (IFC), and Professor David Brereton (Centre for Social Responsibility in Mining, University of Queensland) – we would like to congratulate PanAust who have been recognized as the 2010 recipient of the Best Community Development Initiative Award.
PanAust’s Livelihood Improvement Program was designed to assist the sustainable development of communities in their Phu Kam Operations in Laos. Jointly managed by PanAust’s community officers and the Village Development Committee – the program promotes and facilitates market gardening, fish farming in local villages through agricultural training, quality control. A micro‐finance partnership with the Lao Women’s Union is also in effect and the village‐based savings and credit fund has 150 participants across both of the villages that are close to Phu Kham and has benefited 900 families. From its inception in early 2008, the Program has grown such that the Phu Kham Operation Camp now purchases 8,000 kilograms of vegetables each month from local farmers.
