Dr. José Vega – in his current role as Vice President, Global Safety – is responsible for leading global efforts in the areas of safety signal detection and assessment, pharmacovigilance, pharmacoepidemiology, and therapeutic area safety. He has extensive experience having worked in a number of different roles within Amgen and prior to this for Merck. Dr Vega will bring with him his vast wealth of knowledge and experience to discuss drug safety challenges: addressing the safety issues faced globally by the industry.

Executive Director, Valerie Perentesis, joined Bristol-Myers Squibb in 2006 to head the Operations & External Affairs in Global Pharmacovigilance and Epidemiology, having previously worked for several years at Pfizer. During this period, GPV&E accomplished a complete transformation of its structure, procedures, practices, and strategies to ensure focus on patient safety. One key feature of the new strategy is accessing global talent and expanding operations to India as an industry first of its kind. Dr Perentesis is set to analyse this move and offer the benefit of her experience as she discusses, The next generation pharmacovigilance – an innovative model to enhance patient safety.

Joining the congress from Shanghai is Rebecca Wang, Director of Drug Safety Management, Roche, who is set to provide an industry perspective of drug safety in China. Dr Wang has been working in the pharmaceutical industry for over 9 years and her roles include Clinical Research Physician for AstraZeneca, Senior Medical Director of Clinical Drug Safety and Global Drug Safety Physician also at AZ as well as a period at Wyeth as Senior Medical Director of Cardiovascular, Global Medical Affairs.
