Retirement Communities World - Aged Care Day
Following last year’s successful inauguration The Retirement Communities World Aged Care Day is back, with more speakers, more case studies and more focus on the issues driving Australia’s aged care sector.
Australia’s aged care industry is now worth more than AU$7 billion. The ratio of over 65s to 15-64 year-olds in Australia will almost double within 30 years. These are the numbers that continue to propel Australia’s aged care sector as one of the fastest growing industries in the country.
Minister for Ageing Justine Elliot suggests “Australia faces major challenges with its ageing population, but also many opportunities,” (The Australian, September 19, 2008). According to a recent report, construction of aged care facilities topped AU$1.4 billion in 2007, up 38 per cent on the previous year. With an ageing population that can’t be ignored, this trend seems certain to continue. The money to be made is vast and aged care providers that stay ahead of the coming trends will be best placed to capitalise on the incoming boomer wealth.
