Roland has a background of engineering and business and has had extensive involvement in the Australian energy industry.
His experience ranges from management of the gas sales agreements upon which the North West Shelf Project was founded, through to management of gas production and gas transmission pipeline activities, including as General Manager of the Goldfields Gas Transmission Pipeline in WA. Prior to joining Eastern Star Gas he provided consulting services to clients including the ACCC, Alcoa, Gorgon Gas and CS Energy.
In 2004 Roland authored two Government and industry sponsored regional minerals programme reports.
The first, titled “Facilitating the Development of Natural Gas in Northeastern New South Wales”, looked at requirements for establishing a gas industry in the study region. That report addressed matters of relevance today, including the prospectivity of coal seam gas in NSW and the importance of gas pipeline infrastructure.
The second, titled “Energy for Minerals Development in the South West Coast Region of WA” looked at energy related pricing requirements for triggering minerals projects, and predicted the tightening of gas supply that has resulted in the high gas prices now prevailing in WA.
Roland joined Eastern Star Gas in 2007 as Chief Commercial Officer and is now, of course, intimately involved in commercialisation of coal seam gas production at Narrabri.
