 Mr Mike R. Hughes,
Managing Director - Head, Global Transaction Banking - MENA Deutsche Bank Mike Hughes joined Bankers Trust in 1988 in the fixed income area of the Bank running a dedicated operations team covering Eurobonds, MTNs, Commercial Paper and Escrow products. Mike was asked to set up the American Depositary Receipt (ADR) business as part of Trust & Securities Services (TSS) in London during the early 90s and then relocated to Hong Kong to establish the Bank’s ADR presence in Asia. Mike returned to London in 1998 to head the Product Management function for the ADR group with direct responsibility for the strategic direction of the business, the P&L relationship and transaction management, administration, operations, broker services, compliance, risk control and business policy.
During his tenure with the ADR group Mike developed a financial product which now has patent protection on a global basis while also being actively involved in the structuring and establishment of many new emerging markets depositary receipt programs including “firsts” from Bahrain, Russia and India. Mike is now a senior member of Deutsche Bank’s Global Transaction Banking (GTB) management team as well as an Executive Committee member of Deutsche Bank in the Middle East. Mike heads the GTB franchise in the Middle East capitalizing on his extensive experience of debt, equity and cash products. Mike has built a large team of professionals to service the Bank’s clients in the region across the cash, trade and securities services business and is expanding the franchise across the GCC, Maghreb and Levant regions. Mike has been quoted in the following publications: Forbes, Wall Street Journal, Business 24/7, Financial Times, Financial News, Asia Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg News, Asia Finance and EuroWeek as well as appearing on Bloomberg TV providing market commentary. Mike is a member of the Securities Institute (UK), is registered as a Senior Manager within the DIFC and is qualified as an Authorized Person for the purposes of the Financial Services Act.
