 Eng Sobhi Batterjee,
Founder, President & CEO Saudi German Hospitals Group Eng. Sobhi Batterjee is the Founder President & CEO of Saudi German Hospitals Group, the largest Healthcare Developer in the MENA region. Eng. Batterjee graduated in Electrical Engineering from the University of Kansas, USA and has Masters in Electrical Engineering from University of Colorado, USA.
Eng.Batterjee driving philosophy is, a verse from The Holy Quran “ومن احياها فكأنما احيا الناس جميعا ” المائده 32 And if anyone saved a life, it would be as if he saved the life of all mankind. Al-Maidah (32)”.
He started the SGH Group with his brother Dr.Khalid Batterjee, with a Capital of 15 Million US$ in 1988. The Group has now grown to over 1 Billion US$ institution and number one Healthcare brand in GCC, Pan Arab and Levant regions. SGH Group has 5 World class Tertiary care Hospitals in KSA and Yemen, with over 1600 beds (has plan for further 8000 beds), treating over 1,000,000 patients and performing over 100,000 operations annually. 12 Hospital Projects are under various stages of Planning and Construction like Dubai (UAE), Cairo (Egypt), Hail (KSA), Addis Ababa (Ethiopia), Khartoum (Sudan), Kashmir (Pakistan), Syria, Morocco, Nigeria, Chad …. etc. The Group is developing many Not-for-Profit Hospitals for the poor in association with Prof. Mohammad Yunus (Nobel Peace Prize Winner 2006), Grameen Bank, Islamic Development Bank (IDB), GE and CCC.
The Group has started the largest private Medical University of the MENA region with strategic partnership with Tubingen University of Germany and the Group has a network of SGNAs (Saudi German Nursing and Allied Sciences Training Institutes) across Saudi Arabia.
Eng. Batterjee has also established many Not-for-Profit institutions like Charity Blood Bank, Saudi Entrepreneurship Development Institute (SEDI), Family Business Academy (FBA) and Health Management Research & Training Institute (HMRTI).
Group has developed strategic partnerships with many institutions like IDB (Islamic Development Bank), IFC (International Finance Cooperation, Private sector arm of World Bank), Arab Fund-Kuwait, Global Investment House, Olympic Group, Yemen Airways, Retirement Fund of Ministry of Interior-Yemen, General Corporation for Social Security-Yemen, Islamic Finance Company-UAE….. etc.
The Corporate Vision of the Group is “To design, finance, construct and operate 30 World Class Hospitals and Create 50,000 jobs by the Year 2015 & To be the dominant regional player in the Private Medical Education by establishing 5 Medical Colleges by the Year 2020”

-National Medal of Cedar – Grade Knight by the President of Lebanon(2007);

-Saudi Achievement Award for Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) by Arabian Business(2007)’;
-Millennium Development Goals Award by MDG-UN and The Arab–African Initiatives at Cairo(2007),
-Healthcare Industry CEO Award by Middle East Excellence Awards Institute presented by Hon. Dominique de Villepin, Former Prime Minister of France(2008).…. etc.
-SGH Group is among “50 most admired companies of the GCC” in a survey (2007) done by the Arabian Business.com, the one and only Healthcare Company in the list.
-Eng.Batterjee has bagged the prestigious Ernst & Young (E&Y)’s Entrepreneur of the year Award for 2008 for entire Middle East and Arab World and he represented the region at E&Y’s World Entrepreneur of the Year event held at Monaco in May 2009 .
-Eng.Sobhi A.Batterjee and SGH Group have been selected amongst an elite group of YPO-WPO members as an award recipient for the SEN Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Leadership Award at a ceremony of the YPO-WPO Global Leadership Conference in mid-March in 2009 at Miami, USA.
