The TRANSFORMER PROTECTOR (TP) is a concept that can be applied to all oil-filled transformers up to 1000 MVA and larger.
TP is the sole technique that avoids transformer explosions and fires that follow low impedance short-circuits.
The system has proven its high reliability. There have been no reported cases of spurious operation of the Transformer Protector System. Close investigation of the Transformer Protector control system quickly reveals the soundness of the design logic and that spurious operation is virtually impossible
During a transformer short-circuit, the TRANSFORMER PROTECTOR (TP) is activated within milliseconds by the first dynamic pressure peak of the shock wave, avoiding transformer explosions before static pressure increases.
