The Unimog/Special Vehicles Division is part of Daimler’s business unit Truck Group Europe. The main pillar of the division is the well-known Mercedes-Benz Unimog, with its two: implement carrier and extreme off-roader product lines.
Thanks to its unique chassis design, the Unimog U400 is ideally suited for operations on rails. The compact axle dimensions and special rims enable the Unimog to be driven via it’s own wheels on both standard or broad-gauge tracks. The retractable rail guidance system keeps the vehicle safely on track, allowing speeds up to 50 km/h.
In cooperation with renowned international body manufacturers, Daimler AG can offer vehicles for various operations on rails, such as shunting units for cost-effective manoeuvring of hauled loads up to 1000 tonnes, vehicles equipped with an access-platform for overhead-line maintenance, recovery vehicles with hydraulic equipment for re-railing derailed wagons or units for maintenance work on the rail infrastructure, snow clearing or vegetation control.
