Where the world's top investors meet the world's leading hedge fund managers
Already established as the Middle East's largest investment event, Hedge Funds World Middle East attracted 700 delegates in 2008, and already a large number of hedge funds, local investors and international pension funds and endowments have registered for 2009. Seen as the preferred hedge fund event globally - attracting the most investors, the biggest names, and in the best location.
Meet with "titans" of the hedge fund industry
Hear from hedge fund legends - John Paulson of Paulson & Co, Leon Cooperman of Omega Advisors, Ian Wace of Marshall Wace and Joseph DiMenna of Zweig DiMenna. After big gains in 2007 and 2008, John Paulson will outline the major opportunities that he forsees in 2009.
International investors flocking to Dubai
This year, more than a hundred end-investors, both international and local, will attend Hedge Funds World Middle East. For them, the attractions of a Dubai event are numerous. The GCC equity markets now appear on the radar screen of every large global investor, and many of the international investors flocking to Dubai for Hedge Funds World Middle East are also on a mission to find local fund managers to help them take advantage of lower prices and build up their fledgling Middle East exposure.
Middle East influence growing as a source of funds
Even with the oil price well below previous peaks, the global transfer of wealth from West to East continues to have a significant impact on the funds controlled by Middle East investors. Although western investors have been scrambling to raise liquidity and redeem hedge fund holdings, Middle East investors are still at an early stage in building up their portfolios of alternative investments. Local investors already hold well over $1 trillion in overseas assets, and as sophistication grows, this diversification is accelerating. Our recent survey demonstrates this in some detail.
Hedge Funds World Middle East attracts a large number of decision-makers from sovereign wealth funds and other government agencies, as well as family offices and managers of family wealth, pension funds, private banks and other local investing institutions. Last year over 40% of conference delegates were investors.
