 Prof Lesleyanne Hawthorne,
Associate Dean International University of Melbourne, Australia Lesleyanne Hawthorne (PhD, MA, BA Hons, Dip Ed, Grad Dip Mig Stud) is Associate Dean International at the University of Melbourne. She was previously Research Manager at Australia’s Bureau of Immigration, Multicultural and Population Research, and has 25 years experience researching high skilled migration and international student flows. Most recently this has included commissioned research for:
•The New Zealand government (2009: competition for and labour market outcomes secured by skilled migrants, including international students, in New Zealand compared to Australia).
•UNESCO (2008: higher education systems and foreign credential recognition in nine comparator countries and Australia).
•The Canadian government (2004-10: separate studies of Canadian strategies on foreign credential recognition across all fields, a comparison of Australian and Canadian policy and outcomes in terms of skilled migration programs, and Canadian student enrolments in Australia and recognition levels of return to Canada).
•Migration Policy Institute, United States (2008: examination of the growing global competition for international students as skilled migrants).
•APRU/Pacific Economic Cooperation Council (2007-08: analysis of the Asia-Pacific education market and international student flows).
•The OECD (2007-08: research on skilled migration policy, international student flows, and credential recognition trends in 10 countries).
