Prior to joining American Express, Geoff held a number of senior management roles in the IT and Telecommunications industries with companies including NCR, Lucent and Avaya.  His 12 years with NCR included a focus on the finance industry and a posting in the US.

David Bell

David Bell started his career at the Royal Military College Duntroon in 1979.  From 1983 to 1988 he was a Commissioned Officer in the Infantry and resigned in the rank of Captain.

Between 1988 and 1992 David was Chief of Staff to the NSW Minister for Agriculture and Deputy National Party Leader, Ian Armstrong.

In 1992, David entered the corporate world as a senior consultant at Andersen Consulting (now Accenture). Between 1993 and 2000 he held positions as Managing Director at Gavin Anderson & Kortlang; Group Manager Corporate Affairs at Telstra; and General Manager Corporate Affairs & Communications at NRMA Insurance Limited. In January 2001, David was appointed Chief Executive Officer of the Australian Bankers’ Association.  In this capacity, he was appointed the Chairman of the International Banking Federation in March 2007 and is also on the Board of the Finance Industry Council of Australia which represents the combined interests of Australia’s foremost financial sector associations.

David holds a Master of Business Administration and Bachelor of Economics and Bachelor of Arts degrees.

Michele commenced work at the Reserve Bank in 1985.  She worked in Economic Group and International Department before joining Payments Policy Department in 1998 as Chief Manager.  Michele has been the Head of Payments Policy Department since February 2007.
Michele has been involved in all aspects of the Bank’s work on payment systems over the past decade, including the reforms to card payment systems in Australia, issues in high-value payment systems and licensed securities clearing and settlement facilities, and the review of payment system reforms. 
Michele has a first class honours degree in Economics from the University of New England, Armidale and a Master of Science (Economics) from the London School of Economics.

Chris Clark

Chris Clark was appointed Visa’s General Manager Australia, New Zealand and South Pacific in May 2008 following several years working for Visa in Asia.
 
He was previously General Manager for Taiwan, Hong Kong & Macau and the Philippines for three years, where he was responsible for the business operations, strategy development, implementation and management of the country offices.  In addition, he had regional responsibility for the relationship management of several key global clients.  Under his leadership, Visa diversified its product offerings by focusing on rolling out debit and commercial programs and putting Taiwan and more recently Hong Kong at the forefront of payWave contactless payments adoption.  Prior to this, Mr Clark was country manager for Taiwan, a role he held since 2002.

Before joining Visa, Mr Clark served for 14 years in a variety of senior management positions at National Australia Bank, including market management roles in Taiwan and Thailand from 1995 to 2000.  He also worked in consumer and commercial banking, including assignments in Hong Kong and Tokyo.

Mr Clark is a fluent speaker of Mandarin and has a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Melbourne, Australia.

Thierry Denis has been with Ingenico for over 18 years, 14 of which have been spent in the Asia Pacific region. He manages the Australian subsidiary of Ingenico, with over 60 staff members based in offices in Sydney and Melbourne, and has overall responsibility for the company’s operations in Australia and New Zealand.
Mr Denis has a strong technical background and has occupied a range of positions in the organization, including R&D Manager and Software Director for Asia Pacific. At the beginning of 2004, Mr Denis was appointed Director of the South East Asian region based in Singapore where he remained until 2006 when he returned to Australia to take up his current position as Managing Director.

Before joining First Data, Mr Elliott held several senior Sales and Marketing roles with Fujitsu and Unisys.
 
Mr Elliott has spent over 20 years in the Information Technology and Telecommunications Services Industry working with banks, retailers and major corporations internationally to define business requirements for Payment Solutions including Internet payments, EFTPOS terminals, Branch Automation, and Document and Image Processing.  He holds a Bachelor Degree and did his post graduate work in Economics and Law.

Chris Hamilton

Christopher Hamilton commenced as Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director of Australian Payments Clearing Association Limited on 1 January 2006. APCA is the payments industry self regulatory body and industry association.

Prior to this appointment, he was Executive General Manager, Clearing & Settlement at Australian Stock Exchange Limited (ASX). Mr Hamilton worked at ASX throughout the transition from a stockbrokers’ mutual into the world’s first self-listed stock exchange.

While at ASX, he was responsible for the CHESS settlement system and for the establishment of the Australian Clearing House (ACH) under the Financial Services Reform legislation. He also assisted the Reserve Bank in the establishment of its Financial Stability standards for financial markets clearing and settlement.

Chris has served on the board of Austraclear Limited (formerly the Australian debt security depository), and as Vice Chairman of CCP-12, the industry association of the world’s clearing houses.

Colin Hegarty, having graduated from the Queensland University of Technology in 1979, with a Bach. App. Sc (Computing), commenced his career at the State Government Computer Centre as a graduate programmer, and progressed through a number of interesting ICT projects.
In 1990, Colin saw an opportunity to be more involved in ICT from a contractual perspective and joined a project developing a national ICT contracting framework called GITC – the Government Information Technology Conditions.  At that point in time, the contractual framework being established between the Commonwealth, all the states and major instrumentalities and the ICT industry was GITC Version 1.
Over the next 15 years, Colin had established a significant niche as the GITC Contract Authority on behalf of the Queensland Government in ICT contract negotiation, mediation and dispute resolution between agencies and the Government and implementing and managing a number of whole of Government ICT contracts, which provided significant benefits to the Queensland Government. 
During this time, he obtained his MBA from the Queensland University of Technology.
As the Contract Authority, Colin had extensive dealings with the ICT industry, Queensland Government agencies and other jurisdictions, in the environment of ICT procurement and contracting.
In 2004, Colin led the development of a major Government initiative – GITC Version 5. This project won a prestigious Service Excellence award from the Department of Public Works.
In December 2005, Colin recognised an opportunity to join TransLink to contract and operationally manage the Queensland Government’s go card system, which at that stage was still a project being developed.
In 2007, Colin was recognised with a Public Service Medal in the 2007 Australia Day awards list, for his contribution to Government contracting.  This award being presented by the Governor of Queensland.
In May 2007, Colin took over the role of Program Manager of the AFCS project and managed the subsequent delivery of the project, relevant contract negotiations with Cubic Transportation Systems and oversaw the formal launch of the go card system across South East Queensland in early 2008.
As go card Operations and Contracts Manager, Colin is now responsible for the operational running and strategic direction of the go card system in Queensland.

Edward Herman

Edward (Ed) Herman serves as Senior Director of the Global Payments, Card Services and Business Exchange Services unit within the Global Financial Products division of EDS. Herman’s responsibilities include defining the strategy and managing the payment, card and EDI services offerings as well as defining the business transformational outsourcing (BTO) for this area, including both the business process outsourcing and global IT consulting capabilities embedded in this service line. Herman is leading EDS development and strategy for the Agile Card Framework, a Service Oriented Architecture based modernization of card processing platforms that forms the foundation for a card utility launched by EDS in Australia in late 2007.  Ed joined EDS in February of 2003, previously holding positions as a Partner in Ernst & Young LLP's National Cash & Treasury  Management Practice and as the SVP - Americas for CashTech Solutions corporate banking solutions. 

Herman brings over 23 years of experience in financial services, payments processing, cash management, and software solution development.  He has worked with major financial institutions in the areas of payments outsourcing, new product development, process redesign in payments and cash management, development of the financial supply chain, and instituting revenue enhancement strategies and processes. His prior experience has resulted in Herman designing, directing and managing products, services and engagements for clients in the financial services, brokerage and insurance industries and development of a financial supply chain solution that embodied third-party software, integration and professional services.

Herman received an MBA from Indiana University in Finance and Accounting and a BBA in finance from the University of Notre Dame.  He holds the following certifications: Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and Certified Treasury Professional (CTP). Ed and his family reside in Chicago, IL.

In 2002, I undertook a ‘sea change’, interpreting economic and financial trends for the Australian Financial Review. Prior to this I held Chief Economist posts at both Colonial and Commonwealth Securities.

I have worked in banking, finance and journalism for 28 years.

I hold both Bachelor and Master degrees in Commerce (Economics).  Both degrees were undertaken at University of NSW.

In October 2004, following three successful years with Citigroup Singapore where he was part of the Asia Pacific Fraud Risk Management team, Muuru moved to Australia. Muuru is a key member of many industry groups and forums. 

Muuru holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Tasmania and an MBA from the Victoria University of Technology, Melbourne.  He completed his fraud internship program with Citigroup in New York.

Dee is an accomplished leader with proven expertise in the design and execution of comprehensive business re-engineering, product marketing and change management strategies. With strong customer and alliance relationship skills, Dee’s background includes numerous senior management roles across a range of industries, including IT, finance and tourism.

Prior to joining EDS, Dee held a number of senior positions at National Australia Bank (NAB). During her six years with the bank, Dee spearheaded a number of key strategic projects, successfully repositioning the bank's cards portfolio and driving extremely successful profitability initiatives.

As NAB’s General Manager for Consumer & Commercial Cards, Dee steered the Cards business through regulatory reform, delivered significant year-on-year growth and re-engineered the business to compete in a mature market, successfully implementing a comprehensive portfolio segmentation strategy across consumer cards.

Dee has served on the Board of Loyalty Pacific, the Visa Executive Committee, the MasterCard Advisory Council and NAB’s Retail Marketing Board. Dee is currently a member of the Institute of Company Directors.

This major deal with Standard Chartered followed another significant transaction with global partner HBOS in 2005.  John was instrumental in the merchant acquiring alliance transaction between First Data International and Bank of Western Australia Limited (BankWest), a local subsidiary of HBOS, in the Australian marketplace.  The BankWest/First Data International alliance was finalised in September 2005, and the business was officially launched as BWA Merchant Services. 

Prior to his current role at First Data, John spent the previous four years in a number of strategic Senior Business Development and Relationship Management Roles, primarily focusing on growing and supporting First Data International’s Financial Institution client base.

Before joining First Data International, John spent four years as Sales Manager for the National Australia Bank’s payments business.

After 5 years working as business Analyst at the Directorate General XIII (telecommunication, information industries and innovation) of the European Commission, Mr. Tur Hartmann joined the European Monetary Institute, the forerunner of the European Central Bank, in May 1995. This covers specially the SEPA project. In this respect, the Market Infrastructure Division is in charge of developing an ECB policy on SEPA and to monitor the development of the banking industry in this important project. Sharon holds a Bachelor of Economics, Postgraduate Diploma in Applied Finance and Investment, Master of Business Administration and Master of Arts (Business Administration), and has recently commenced a Doctorate of Management.  She is a Fellow of the Financial Services Institute of Australisia (FINSIA), is a guest lecturer for the FINSIA Master of Business program, and is a qualified Executive Coach.

Among Sharon’s many achievements are the 2004 FINSIA Williamson Scholarship in recognition of her contributions to the financial services industy, and the Strategic Marketing and Olympic Circle Awards for leading strategy that developed Westpac’s revenue winning capability.  Sharon was a founding member and Board member of the Lending Industry XML Initiative (LIXI), which won the 2005 MIS Innovation Award (Best Business Enabler).

Stuart’s Representation team is responsible for representing the CBA Group on payments related matters.  This involves representation to regulators, credit card schemes, government, industry bodies, Banks and Other Financial Institutions to ensure that the Group's position is well articulated, co-ordinated, strategically based, and driving towards a preferred outcome.

Recently, Stuart has held senior positions in both Premium Business Services and Retail Banking Services, leading the Bank’s card acquiring business, leading strategic responses to regulatory issues, leading industry level deliberations on payments matters, shaping payments strategies, and related product management.

Stuart holds a number of external Board appointments, and a degree in Economics.

Australian Merchant Payments Forum

Russell Zimmerman purchased the business of Spark’s Shoe’s in 1980 with his wife Marion. Spark’s Shoes are family footwear stores specialising in women’s shoes and the fitting of children’s shoes. Spark’s Shoes is a Clarks Platinum Retailer and one of the largest independent retailers of Clarks Children’s shoes in Australia.

Russell was invited to join the Australian Retailers Association as a State Division Councillor in 1995. In 1997 he was elected as a State delegate to the Australian Retailers Association National Council. In 2001 to 2003 Russell held the positions of NSW Division State President and in 2003 to 2004 the position of National President of the Australian Retailers Association. Being active in a small business, having close contact with staff, the retail consumer and all issues pertaining to small business, Russell was able to use this experience and mesh these issues with the issues of large retailers and bring a balance to the requirements of large and SME retailers.

In February 2005 Russell was approached to Chair the Australian Merchant Payments Forum, a position he still holds. Russell is also a member of the Rotary Club of Beecroft Inc and has held various positions on the board of that club.  Russell was awarded a Paul Harris Fellow from the Rotary Club of Beecroft in 1990 for service to the community.

Russell’s involvement and interest in credit card payments was brought about by Spark’s Shoes having an extremely high volume of card payments within its business. The AMPF represents both large and small merchants, including the 8000 members of the Australian Retailers Association. The AMPF’s objective is to ensure that all merchants, large and small, continue to receive the fairest possible merchant service fee when dealing with the schemes.
