2008 conference themes - a barrel of laughs?
On the first day of the 2008 event Marty St George of Jetblue quipped that delegates should play a game based around the number of times “fuel” is mentioned during the conference.
Chairman of Day Two, Barry Biffle of Spirit, had the barrel price on a monitor, giving the delegates regular updates. Though both were in jest, the message was very clear: the price of fuel impacts every aspect of an airline's day to day activity.
Conference themes for 2009
Based on feedback from the 2008 event, the following themes will hit the 2009 program:
* Latin route development
By popular demand, the Latin focus in 2009 will be far greater. At the 2008 event Volaris and LAN Chile provided fantastic insight into their market places, and will be lending their support to the Latin development of the event.
* Realizing the revenue potential in cargo
A topic that was raised during more than one Q&A session. Should VPs of Revenue Management be looking at cargo, as well as passengers?
* Impact of an outdated ATC system on operations
What is shaping the future of ATC systems, and how will they maximize safety and efficiency?
* Start-up showcase
A year which has seen high-profile airlines cease operation has also seen new and exciting airlines emerge. 2009 will see the trend of new start-ups continue, with even some interesting re-launches to set hit the headlines too. The sky is most certainly still blue for many an airline optimist, and the 2009 event will grill the newbies…
