•Mercer’s Study (Benefits Outside the Square Study) determined that for many baby boomers, the impact of recent stock market declines on their superannuation savings means that they can’t afford to stop working altogether;
•Additionally over 40% of employees over the age of 50 are unsure of how much they need to retire;
•As a result one in four will delay retirement into their 70’s;
•However the report did express that baby boomers wanted their employers to help them access financial advice and education;
•Employers recognise the benefits of facilitating this, but rather encouraging employees at the earliest possible age to start planning their financial futures, less than a third are actively seeking a solution.

•QIC Ltd has recorded a $4.4 million after-tax profit for the 2007/08 period despite tough market conditions. Whilst QIC Ltd has reported a drop of $5.6 million in profits, this does reflect the volatility and conservative approaches towards investment in the current market.
•"QIC remains positive about the long-term prospects for markets and the investment strategies we have in place," Mr. Trevor Rowe said (QIC chairman). The report shows at June 30 this year the QIC was managing $82.9 billion in funds, up 28.5 per cent over the year.
•Mr. Rowe attributed the maintenance of the companies’ bottom line over the 2007/08 period to its incorporation of unlisted alternative assets and investments in US endowment funds.
