Global Investment Strategist,
Julius Baer
Christian launched in May of this year a 'substantial values strategy' that weights the stocks on their book value. This has so far proved successful with further exploration now being made to launch indexes based on fundamental weightings. Christian however doesn't believe that fundamentally weighted indexes will take over the market cap indexing sector due to the fact that long standing highly liquidated indexes such as the Dow Jones Industrial Average will continue to act as some level of benchmark within the majority of investors portfolios, and remain the favoured option for long-term investors. However Christian does believe that for clever passive investors there is little extra gain by investing in the large traditional market cap weighted indexes and instead they should examine opportunities within fundamentally weighted indexes.
After having earned a degree in economics from the University of Berne, Christian Gattiker joined the economic department of Swiss Bank Corporation (SBC) as an economic editor in 1995. He then moved to Peter Bütikofer & Cie. as an investor relations consultant for domestic and international stock-listed companies. In 2000 he joined Credit Suisse as an equity analyst, covering industrial sectors on a pan-European basis. In 2002 he was appointed to head the Swiss equity team, assuming responsibility for Swiss and European equity strategy. He received his CFA charter that same year. In 2004 Christian took over the position of Global Equity Strategist at Credit Suisse, in particular covering the U.S. equity market. In August 2006 he joined Julius Baer as Head of Equity & Strategy Research. He earned the Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) designation in 2007.
