And this year's congress will be even bigger
What’s new?
Hedge Funds World Zurich has, for a decade, addressed the most relevant and pertinent issues affecting hedge fund investors in any one given year. The gatherings success has been built on solution finding and thus we have managed to retain and grow the number of end-investors attending year on year.
Currently investors, both in traditional and alternative investments, are experiencing the fallout of the credit crunch with no-one being 100% sure exactly how deep and how far the turbulence will spread. Investors therefore told us that a focus on macro-economics is required this year to quantify the impact as well as opportunities the markets have created. To ensure we still allow adequate exposure to hedge fund issues we have extended the conference by a further day to incorporate a one day ‘guru’s and experts’ led day to be titled ‘Global Investment Outlook Briefing’.
The program has been based on a 6 month research project undertaken by Terrapinn’s Financial Markets team with 120 end-investors includign pension funds, insurance companies, endowment funds, and family offices. As a snapshot of the research, investors stated that in 2008 they felt the top five issues they were facing were:
- Understanding the market cycle and how to position their global investment strategy in light of this knowledge
- Assessing the stability of the world economy and its financial markets
- If China and India were the new drivers of global economic trends
- Will global volatility remain high in 2008
- and last but certainly not least, understanding the exact cause of the credit crunch and the progression through the financial system
Further to our global theme respondents provided a clear insight on the hedge fund specific issues affecting them in 2008 including:
-
Will leverage and liquidity bounce back in 2009 in the hedge funds market, and what will it mean if it doesn’t?
-
What is the future for market volatility, and how can investors choose the best hedge fund to maximise the opportunities?
-
Is there un-identified potential in the convergence of traditional with alternative investments?
-
What hedge fund investment opportunities can be discovered by accurately reading market trends?
As a new addition to Hedge Funds World Zurich in 2008 we will look at the convergence of traditional long only management with the fast paced frenzy of alternative asset classes and assess what this means for the future of asset allocation plans and their allocations.
