Kingsley Jones

Kingsley is a Portfolio Manager within the International Equities team and is focused on the Thematic Funds series commencing with the Climate Change fund.  Kingsley joined us in 2008 where his responsibilities include supporting the day-to-day management of existing international portfolios along with the development of newer products and the ongoing enhancement of quantitative models.
Prior to joining Macquarie, Kingsley helped establish the Australian Value Equities business of AllianceBernstein LP in Sydney performing a quantitative portfolio management role along with a second role as Global Head of Quantitative Trading Research. He has ten years experience in a variety of sell-side and buy-side quantitative equity roles at AllianceBernstein LP, CSFB and County Investment Management. Kingsley holds a PhD in Theoretical Physics from the University of Bristol and has completed the CFA.

John Morrison is Chief Executive of Man Investments,  one of the world's largest providers of alternative investment products . Based in Pfäffikon, Switzerland, and in London, Man has offices in 13 countries and its parent, Man Group plc, is a constituent of the FTSE 100.
 
Since being appointed as Chief Executive in 2005, John has seen Man Investments’ funds under management grow from US$43bn to more than US$71.7bn. John, a pioneer of the Australian alternative investment industry, was awarded the Contribution to the Australian Hedge Fund Industry Award in 2007.
 
John was previously Managing Director of Man Investments Australia Limited and Chairman of Man Financial Australia Limited (now MF Global). With an extensive legal background, John moved in to the managed funds industry in 1986 with Elders Finance Limited, in Sydney as Head of Derivative Funds Management. He joined the Ord Minnett Group, of Australia, in 1989, becoming a board member and Head of Managed Funds for that group. He was chairman of the Managed Futures and Hedge Funds Association of Australia. John Morrison holds a Bachelor of Legal Studies from Macquarie University.

Richard Gibbs is Chief Economist and Head of Economics for the Macquarie Group Limited. He has worked for Macquarie for the past 14 years and is responsible for the formulation and presentation of the Group’s economic scenarios and forecasts for Australia, New Zealand, Asia and the major industrial economies. He also acts as a specialist adviser to several of the Group’s major corporate clients.

Richard is widely recognised as one of Australia’s leading global analysts and policy commentators. In the 2005, 2006 and 2007 Greenwich surveys of institutional investors, Richard and his team were ranked number one for Australian economic and market research by investors in the US, the United Kingdom/Europe and Asia. In Australia, the team continues to occupy a Top Two ranking with major institutional investors.

He also provides regular briefings to the Australia-China Business Council (ACBC) and frequently delivers the ACBC’s China Economic Updates.  Richard regularly provides commentary on economic and business developments in Australasia and East Asia for CNN, CNBC Asia and BBC World. Richard also acts as Consultant Chief Economist to the Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank in the United Arab Emirates and the Middle East region.

Richard holds a Masters degree in Economics and Finance and a Masters degree in Business Administration as well as a Graduate Diploma in Applied Finance and Investment.  He is also a Trustee of the Committee for the Economic Development of Australia (CEDA), member of the executive committee of the Australian Business Economists and a member of the advisory board for the Centre for Middle Eastern and Central Asian studies at the Australian National University. Richard is also a member of the Board of Youth Off The Streets and is Chairman of the Board Development Committee and Advisory Board member of  Rein Foundation.

Scott heads up the UBS economics team, which in 2006 ranked number one in the Australian BRW Equities, Asia Money and Australian & US Greenwich Institutional surveys. Prior to joining the firm, he spent seven years working for the Reserve Bank of Australia, primarily in the Economic Activity and Forecasting section. Scott holds an honours degree in economics (1990) and a masters of economics degree (1994) from the Australian National University.

Chris Caton is the Chief Economist for BT Financial Group.  He was Chief Economist at Bankers Trust from 1991 until July 1999.  From 1994 to 1997, he was also Chairman of the Indicative Planning Council, which advised the Government on matters relating to the housing industry.

Previously he worked in the Treasury, the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet, and for an economic consulting firm in the United States.

Chris was educated at the University of Adelaide and the University of Pennsylvania.

John Edwards

John Edwards is the Chief Economist for Australia and New Zealand for the global financial group, HSBC. In this position he advises the group and its clients on the economic outlook, the direction of exchange rates and interest rates, and on a range of economic policy issues.

From 1991 to 1994 John was principal economic adviser to Treasurer and then Prime Minister, Paul Keating.Earlier in his career he was a political and economic journalist in Sydney and Canberra, and worked as a reporter for ten years in Washington. Immediately before joining Mr. Keating, he was the Sydney Morning Herald’s correspondent in Washington, DC.

As Chief Economist of HSBC Australia and New Zealand his articles on economic issues have appeared in The Australian Financial Review, The Australian, the Financial Times and other publications, and he is frequently quoted on these issues in the local and international news media and interviewed on television and radio. He has given evidence on economic issues before parliamentary committees, and presented briefings for state and federal officials and ministers. He is also a frequent guest speaker at business forums.

Suzanne Elizabeth Murphy joined Acorn partners as a managing director, due diligence and business development, and member of the investment committee in August 2003.

Murphy, who has been in the investment business for more than 15 years, was most recently managing director in charge of alternative investments for CE Unterberg Towbin, a boutique investment bank in New York. While at CEUT, she developed the firm's brand in the alternative investment area and was instrumental in launching a hedge fund in partnership with Standard & Poor's and a fund of funds. She also has experience in the private equity and real estate areas of the investment business. Prior to joining CEUT, her career was in capital markets, where she developed expertise in convertible bonds and US equities at firms like Drexel Burnham and Morgan Stanley.

Murphy received a BA, magna cum laude, from Wheaton College in 1988. She currently serves on the president's commission of the college as well as on its investment committee..

As a Managing Director in Drake's Client Management Group, Richard heads the team that manages relations with and develops products for investors across Asia. He also serves as President of Drake Management (Asia) Ltd., the firm's Asian regional headquarters in Tokyo.

Richard joined Drake following a career as an attorney and consultant whose clients included many of Japan and Asia's leading financial institutions. As an attorney, Richard focused on the tax, legal and business structuring of offshore investments, creating the first investment limited partnerships funded with Japanese public pension money (the historic "Nenpuku" funds), and the first unit trusts organized by Japanese insurers. A consulting arm, known as "HedgeJapan," was added to this practice in 1996, in response to calls from Japanese institutions for more accurate information about hedge funds. HedgeJapan served as a catalyst for the Japanese alternative industry, from 1997 to 2004 operating the first and only regular monthly seminar dedicated to bringing Japanese institutions and hedge fund managers together, and in 2002 launching www.hedgejapan.com, the first Japanese-language website dedicated to the needs of Japanese institutional hedge fund investors.

Prior to joining MFS Ricahrd spent almost ten years with BT Financial Group where he oversaw almost $1.8 billion of investments in hedge funds and commodities.  He created the first comingled fund that specifically seeded local hedge fund managers in 2000 and lauched the first multi-manager commodity product in 2002.  He has an MBA from MBS and Degrees in Banking and Finance and Oriental Studies from CIT and the University of Melbourne.

Asoka has overall responsibility for FXall's operations in Asia, working closely with the Singapore and Tokyo offices to drive sales and distribution across the region. Asoka joined FXall from Reuters Asia, where he worked for 14 years in a variety of sales, marketing, and product management roles, most recently as Business Manager & Head of Sales for Reuters Transactions, Sale & Trading Division, Asia. In this role, he was responsible for managing and growing the Reuters Electronic Trading (RET) business in Asia and in leading the successful sale and implementation of a multi-bank portal at CFETS in China. Prior to this, he was posted to Mumbai, India as the Reuters Marketing Manager for South Asia with responsibility for business development, product and data management, public relations and marketing support for the region.
Before joining Reuters, Asoka worked briefly for Citibank and Andersen Consulting. Whilst at Andersen's he was posted to Indonesia for an extended period of time with responsibility for design and development of banking solutions for the retail segment. Asoka completed his post-graduate studies (MSc) at the University of Manchester, Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST) on the back of a Raffles scholarship from the British Council in 1991. He did his undergraduate studies at the National University of Singapore where he achieved Honours in Economics in 1988.
