Ozan Bekçi graduated from the Electric and Electronics Department of the Bosphorus University in 1996, concentrating on telecommunications and microelectronics. Immediately after his undergraduate studies, he pursued his post graduate degree (MBA) on Business Administration at the Carnegie Mellon University at Pittsburgh, USA. After the completion of his MBA degree in 1998, he started to work as an equity research analyst at Penhurst Capital Management in Pittsburgh and was the associate portfolio manager of the newly launched hedge fund concentrating on the equities of technology companies between the years 1999 and 2002.
Mr. Bekci returned to Turkey in 2002 and took up a risk management position at OYAK Bank focusing on the implementation of Basel II compliant risk management modeling. In 2003, he joined the new business development team of OYAK (a large private pension fund of Turkey) and has ever since been involved in the business development projects pursued by OYAK in several executive roles as director or co-director. Several of the business development projects he has been involved with have been putting together the first syndicated loan of OYAK and follow-up syndicated loans, arranging the non-recourse acquisition financing for OYAK’s purchase of a large steel mill, conducting the m&a work for the acquisition of a 1200 MW power plant as well as for the privatization of Turkish incumbent telecom carrier (Turk Telekom), Turkish state refinery (Tupras) and the only integrated flat steel producer of Turkey (Erdemir) and founding a green-field data/telco carrier.
On March of 2006, Mr. Bekçi was appointed as Executive Vice President and Member of the Board at ATAER A.Ş., the holding vehicle for OYAK’s stake in the steel mill Erdemir. He was subsequently appointed as Executive Vice President of Raw Materials and Procurement at Erdemir. During his still continuing tenure as Erdemir’s procurement executive, he has been working on a thorough transformation of Erdemir’s business interactions with the commodity markets with a keen focus on risk management and forward positioning as well as taking initiatives to add paper market activities as an additional instrument. Mr. Bekci has integrated and consolidated the raw material procurement of two separate steel mills under OYAK and restructured the business processes and the organizational architecture accordingly. Ozan Bekçi resumes his position in New Business Development at OYAK.

Robert “Bob” Garino is Director of Commodities for the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries Inc. located in Washington, DC. The commodities department serves as a market research resource for ISRI’s headquarters and for its member firms.
ISRI is a national trade association which represents approximately 1,500 scrap recycling industry participants--consumers, brokers, processors, equipment manufacturers, and service-oriented businesses. In addition to domestic members, ISRI serves members in over thirty countries world-wide. The commodities represented include virtually all metals--such as steel, copper, aluminum, stainless steel, zinc, precious metals, and minor metals--as well as non-metallic materials--such as paper stock, glass, plastics, textiles, and rubber.
Mr. Garino’s duties include writing, editing, and marketing ISRI’s weekly Friday and Monday Report, in addition to writing feature articles for ISRI’s bi-monthly magazine, Scrap. He’s also responsible for numerous member and non-member programs offered throughout the year--such as the September commodity roundtables and various workshops presented at ISRI’s annual convention.
Before joining ISRI, he was with NARI--National Association of Recycling Industries--located in New York City. NARI merged with ISIS--Institute of Scrap Iron and Steel--in 1987 to form ISRI. He moved to Washington, DC and has been with ISRI since the merger.
And before that, Bob was with the London-based Commodities Research Unit. He began his metals career following college (BS Economics, Monmouth University) working in New York City for INCO in market research, and strategic planning for NL Industries.

Earlier in his career he held positions in the State Department, at the American Embassy in Tokyo and the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative. John Harris is a Canadian Professional Mechanical Engineer working for Mittal Steel North America Inc. as Director, Raw Materials Technical Applications.
For the last six years, John has monitored and assessed the global scrap markets for the Mittal Steel Group as well as consulting with individual Mittal Steel Group plants pertaining to scrap buying, processing, storage and usage. For the last 4 years, after each new steel plant acquisition, John has preformed a total scrap assessment. Subsequently, the action plans from these reports have been implemented and followed up regularly with measured cost savings and further action plans.
As well as the above duties, John markets and sells all excess Mittal DRI from all of Mittal Steel’s production operations. This can amount to approximately 700,000mt/year.
Prior to joining Ispat in February 2000, now Mittal Steel, John was Corporate Manager for Scrap Operations for Birmingham Steel. He was involved with setting up of a scrap purchasing organization at the various plants and took an active part in the purchasing of scrap in the southeastern US. Also during this period, he setup sales and marketing plans for Birmingham’s 50% ownership in American Iron Reduction, a DRI producing facility in Louisiana.
Before Birmingham Steel, John worked for Hoogovens Technical Services as Director Business Development for their International activities. He spent 2 years marketing and selling steelmaking technology in China and India before returning to the Western Hemisphere to concentrate on sales to the North and South American markets.
John began his steelmaking career in operations at Stelco in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada in the late 60’s. Here he worked as Manager of an Open Hearth operation and eventual became Manager of a Slab Caster operation for the startup of Stelco’s then new green field site on Lake Erie.
John is a graduate of Boston University in Engineering and a long time member of the “Association of Professional Engineers of Canada”. He resides in Innisfil with his wife, which is located approximately 100 miles North of Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

Ditte Juul Jørgensen is Head of Unit for Trade and Sustainable Development and SPS issues in the European Commission's Directorate-General for External Trade. The unit is responsible for social and environmental aspects of multilateral and bilateral trade policy, Sustainability Impact Assessments and dialogue with civil society, as well as EU export interests relating to Sanitary and Phyto-Sanitary issues.
Ditte Juul Jørgensen has worked in EU trade policy for 13 years. From 1995 to 2002, she worked on WTO issues, including dispute settlement, market access, trade and competition, trade and development, and trade and labour, as well as coherence in global economic policy making. In 2002 Ditte Juul Jørgensen became head of the economic section of the EC Delegation to the United Nations in New York, where she followed trade, development and environmental issues. Upon her return to headquarters in 2006, she worked on bilateral trade relations with countries in South Asia until taking up the post as Head of Unit for Trade and Sustainable Development and SPS Issues in 2007.

Prof.K.S.S.Murthy, Emeritus Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, graduated from University of Mysore with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Later, he obtained Master’s and Doctoral degrees from Indian Institute of Science. He joined the faculty of the Indian Institute of Science in late 1959 and continued to be associated with the Institute engaging in teaching and research in the areas of Metal Castings, Metal Joining, Materials Science, Manufacturing etc., He has guided a number of Master’s and Doctoral programmes besides publishing over 160 papers. He was also associated with the Canmet-Materials Technology Laboratory, Ottawa, Canada, where he initiated research programmes relating to aluminium and copper. He has published over 150 International and National journals and has authored a book “Aluminium Castings”.
After serving as Professor and Chairman he formally retired in 1997 and continued with the Institute in an Emeritus position. He is currently responsible for setting up of a research laboratory “National Facility For Semi-Solid Forming” at a cost of nearly 70 million rupees at the Institute, funded Ministry of Mines, Dept of Science & Technology & Defence Research & Development Organisation [DRDO] , Government of India
Besides being consultant to a number of industries, he is also Director of several companies. He is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Newell Recycling Company of El Paso, a full service scrap plant with a shredder and non ferrous processing facilities, and Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of The Shredder Company, LLC, El Paso, Texas, which operates an equipment manufacturing plant which makes shredding equipment and also a large capacity steel alloy foundry, which makes all types of wear and impact resistant castings.
He has been involved with shredding since the first Newell Shredder was built in 1959 and has been operating and building shredding equipment since that time. He has written numerous papers on the scrap steel and scrap non ferrous metals processing, which have been delivered in scrap industry and steel industry forums around the world.

Meanwhile, he participated in establishing the standards of scrap steel and the associated organization, management and some technical work. Moreover, he participated in establishing the Metal & Resources Department of University of Science and Technology Beijing, the Association of Steel Scrap Utilization and the Iron and Steel Scrap Division of Chinese Society for Metals, and so on.
