Starting his working career in 1990, he joined Pick ‘n Pay Hypermarkets as a Trainee Manager. Working his way through all food departments, he became National Category Manager for Perishables at Pick ‘n Pay Head Office. In 1995 at the emergence of the c-store sector he joined BP as a Category Manager for BP Express. Moving to Senior Category Manager, and Retail e-Business Manager, he then took over the role of Product Manager for BP Express, BP Carwash, Wild Bean Cafe and all other non-fuel offers, for the Africa region.

During this time he developed various new offers for BP Express and was instrumental in the roll out of 130 shops. In 1997 he founded the Association of Southern African Convenience Stores, and also sat on
the board of ECR South Africa at its inception. At the end of 2003 he decided to utilise his entrepreneurial skills to pursue his own business, and since then has been consulting for several major and independent
retailers.
