Since the 20th century before ‘Green’ became a fashionable colour, there has been a rising concern over the global environmental problem and sustainability has undoubtedly gained an unprecedented attention worldwide.  Across the Asia Pacific region, the necessity for sustainable and environmental-friendly buildings is creeping up both the political and corporate agenda, likewise ‘green’ property investment funds.

This session first offers a strategic overview of green initiatives in key Asian markets, followed by a pivotal address of the practical and commercial challenges involved in assessing the ‘green’ business case.  It will highlight the growth in asset value and the stakes involved in sustainable built environments as greening capitalism makes its foray into Asia.

  • Mainstreaming “green” architecture – Where is the Asian sustainability landscape headed
  • Uncovering the latest practical “green” trends: Knowing the ins and outs of project planning and cost estimation – How can green building concepts be incorporated into the various property sectors?
  • An up-close study on green remodelling techniques within the changing market dynamics of real estate
  • The titanic struggle between market fundamentalism and sustainable development: Savouring the sweetness of profitability in a spiralling cost climate – How can owners meet their expected revenue targets?
  • Increasing the bottom line of green property funds: People, planet and profit for sustainable success?

Your Masterclass Leader:

Leanne Tobias, Founder & Principal
Malachite LLC, USA

Leanne Tobias is Founder and Principal of Malachite LLC, an advisory company that specialises in the development, financing, leasing and management of green real estate investments.  She has over 20 years of institutional real estate investment experience and is an internationally recognised speaker and author on sustainable real estate.  Leanne is also a principal author of the Urban Land Institute’s authoritative Green Office Buildings: A Practical Guide to Development.  Her green real estate projects have been featured in a Home Box Office documentary on American television.  She is one of a few real estate investment professionals to hold the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED Accredited Professional designation.

Post-conference Masterclass B
Refining your investment manager selection for improved fund governance
Registration begins at 9.00am with the masterclass commencing at 10.00am and ending at 4.00pm.
Networking luncheon is at 12.30pm for all delegates.

Led by:

Atchison Consultants

As investors continue in the search for yield-enhancing avenues, the methodologies for conducting due diligence and selecting fund managers are becoming increasingly complex.  Investors would want fund managers to exceed benchmarks in a transparent and consistent way but to what extent is this possible?

This session will provide an in-depth knowledge into the assessment criteria for effective fund manager selection, which in turn leads to the know-hows of winning crucial property investment mandates within an increasingly competitive business environment.

  • Understanding developments in real estate investments and the process of fund manager selection – What are the different approaches and can we measure investment skill?
  • Conducting investment reviews and selecting managers for real estate private equity / global unconstrained equity mandates
  • Direct versus indirect investments: Identifying the flow of current trends, risks and rewards for investors
  • Portfolio diversification into REITs and innovative real estate products - With the rise of “mass affluent” products and fund structures internationally, what are the implications on investors and fund manager selection?
  • Distinguishing between an investable-grade asset class and a successful manager – What is the evaluation criterion?
  • Anticipating key challenges post-selection and mastering techniques for monitoring managers

Your Masterclass Leader:

Ken Atchison, Managing Director
Atchison Consultants, Australia

Ken has been involved in financial markets since the early 1970s.  After gaining significant experience in the management of investment portfolios, he moved to providing investment advice to superannuation funds.  Prior to establishing Atchison Consultants in 2001, he was a senior asset consultant with the global firm Towers Perrin (now part of the Russell Group).  Ken's consultancy experience covers a broad range of areas which includes advisory on the setting up of an investment management business, the choice of in-house or outsourced investment management arrangements, the setting up of investment policies and structures for investment strategy, capital market analysis and investment manager research and selection.
