Masterclass 1: Innovations in railway training and staff development
Registration for the masterclass will be at 08:30; the masterclass will commence at 09:00 and conclude at 16:00. Morning and afternoon refreshments, as well as lunch, are scheduled into the day’s proceedings.

Objective

A large number of railway operators are now investing in technology based training programmes. The use of Technology-Based Training methods in the rail industry has not necessarily been matched by an understanding of how to best deploy simulation, with a variety of forms of simulation purchased and differing philosophies on their use. This masterclass will help you to effectively understand and implement these initiatives into your training programmes and help in
maximising and improving the productivity of your workforce.

This masterclass will cover amongst other things:

  • Exploring computer based training and assessment methodologies
  • Helping you to improve the efficiency of your training processes and analysing what these processes include
  • Improving your ability to apply correct staff development procedures

About your workshop leader

Dr Andrew Russell
Managing Director
Rail Training International

Dr Andrew Russell is the Managing Director of one of the Rail industry’s larger private sector training and consultancy providers. Their core business streams include Traction & Rolling Stock Training,
Operations Training, NVQ provision, Research, Simulator maintenance and quality management business consultancy. He was previously Head of Training and Development of Network Rail/ Railtrack where he was in charge of the company training strategy to meet business requirements. He was also the Head of Learning and Development at the London Underground, accountable for all training and development activity. He spent twenty years at the Network Rail. He is currently
responsible for the overall strategic leadership at Rail Training International and is leading research on behalf of the Rail Safety & Standards Boards into the effectiveness of Technology-Based Training
methods for Train Driver and Signaller training. Andrew Russell is also the Chairman of the Association of Rail Training Providers.

Masterclass 2: Technical training in strategic railway maintenance

This masterclass will help you take a 360º look at maintenance management in railway operators. It also allows you to understand the technicalites of maintenance management and how this can be
implemented in your organisation. This will help ensure that you leave with tangible ideas that can be implemented.

This masterclass will cover amongst other things:

  • Finding the key drivers for railway maintenance planning
  • Helping you to optimise your resources to control maintenance
    costs
  • Developing an effective rail maintenance strategy
  • Effectively allocating resources
  • Exploring various case studies

Anil Madan
Technical Director
RITES Ltd, India

Anil Madan is the Director Technical at RITES Ltd, India. He was previously Chief Executive Officer of Caminhos de Ferro da Beira, SARL, the joint venture company of RITES, IRCON and CFM in
Mozambique. He is a graduate in Railway Mechanical Engineering from the Indian Railways Institute of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering. Mr Madan has experience in railway operations, project
management, consultancy and advisory services in various areas including restructuring of railways and private-public partnership in infrastructure sectors, among others. His major assignments include assessment of railway system and developing a business model for Atlantic network, Colombia and heading a multi-disciplinary team for study on the restructuring of Sri Lanka Railways.
