James Baanabe Isingoma is an Assistant Commissioner, Energy Efficiency in the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development in Uganda. He holds a Masters of Science degree in Energy Studies obtained from the University of Sheffield, UK After graduating from Makerere University, Kampala with a degree in Industrial Chemistry in 1983, he worked for Sugar Corporation of Uganda Limited in the Production Department up to a level of a Deputy Manager Process. He later joined Government in 1995 as a Senior Energy Officer till 2006 when he was promoted to Assistant Commissioner Energy Efficiency. He heads the Energy Efficiency Division in the Energy Department.

Paul joined HSBC in 1998 and responsible for HSBC Africa's actitivities in the Debt & Infrastructure space (based in Johannesburg). Within Sub-Saharan Africa, Paul has acted / is acting as HSBC team leader on the following power and industrial sector assignments: PBMR (South Africa) - Financial Adviser on the development of their business case for their 4th generation nuclear reactor development (ongoing) and Eskom (South Africa), Financial Adviser on the due diligence of Projects Bravo, Medupi and Lima, together with the Duvha Station Upgrade. Before relocating to Africa, Paul acted as lead adviser to the Government of Saudi Arabia on its successful and record-breaking greenfield IWPP privatisation programme (2003 - 2006) and also advised the Saudi Government on the ongoing privatisation of Riyadh's three waste water treatment plants (2007). Paul has acted as Financial Adviser or MLA to 13 Middle East IPPs / IWPPs (in Saudi Arabia, Abu Dhabi, Qatar, Oman and Israel). Elsewhere, Paul has acted as MLA of the acquisition financing of power plants and integrated electricity utilities (UK), as well as of a global power plant portfolio (13 assets in Latin America, Europe, Asia and Australia), and worked on numerous assignments in the petrochemicals, transport, pipeline, steel and social infrastructure sectors, Paul holds a BA from Birmingham University, a MA from London University and an MBA from Henley Management College (all UK).

Dr Yves GUENON, is Doctor in Physics (Sherbrooke University Canada) and Engineer graduate of Institut National des Sciences Appliquées (INSA) Toulouse. He began his career in Intersub as development engineer for offshore projects, and then moved to Intercontrôle (CEA subsidiary, which became Framatome in 1998) has project Manager and became in1992 Sales in Marketing Director. In March 2000 he joint Framatome and was appointed Sales and Business Development Director for D&W market. Erica Johnson joined Eskom in 1994 in the Distributor Division of Eskom. She worked in the Regional Control Centre as an operations engineer before moving in 1997 to the System Operations Department in the ESKOM Transmission Division, as the National Control Manager. She quickly demonstrated a high-level understanding of operational planning support, energy management systems and control room practices required in managing a constrained power system in a restructuring electricity supply industry. In 2002 she was promoted to head the system operations business unit. Since being appointed in this challenging position she has received a number of recognitions. In 2005 she was nominated as the runner up in the ESKOM executive of the year award. In 2006 she received the Executive of the Year Award for the leadership and managerial skills she displayed during the power outages experienced in the Western Cape. Erica was promoted to Senior General Manager (Transmission) on 1 October 2006 and subsequently to her current position of Managing Director (System Operations and Planning) on 1 July 2007. Erica has a B.Sc and M.Sc degree in Electrical Engineering from UCT. She is also the South African member of an international research body, the International Council on Large Electric Systems (Cigre). Erica is an avid dog lover and does pottery in her spare time.

Professor Bart Nnaji is the Chairman/CEO of Geometric Power Limited (GPL) - the first indigenously owned private sector power company in Nigeria. Nnaji led the group that financed, designed and built a power plant in Abuja supplying electricity to the Nigerian Electric Power Authority. He served as Federal Minister of Science and Technology of Nigeria in 1993. Prior to his appointment, the Ministry was abolished. He therefore created what is now the modern Federal Ministry of Science and Technology in Nigeria. He was Distinguished Professor of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering at the University of Massachusetts Amherst (1983-1996); Alcoa Foundation Professor of Engineering at University of Pittsburgh (1996-2002); William Kepler Whiteford Professor of Engineering, and Director of the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) Center for e-Design (2002- Present) – a multi-campus NSF Center of Excellence consortium of the University of Pittsburgh, Carnegie Mellon University, University of Central Florida, Virginia Tech, and University of Massachusetts Amherst and member of organizations; Department of Defense, Boeing, Kodak, GE, IBM, Ford Motor Company, Alcoa, Pratt & Whitney, Raytheon, BAE, ANSYS, and Lockheed Martin. He has served as principal or co-principal investigator on over $40 million research sponsored by the NSF, NATO, Department of Defense, and many companies. He has published 5 books and over 100 technical articles. His book, Computer Integrated Manufacturing and Engineering, won the 1994 world best text book prize for Manufacturing Engineering. He is the founding Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Design and Manufacturing and has served as Editor of many professional journals. He has served as Chairman of many conferences including the World Conference on Robotics Research (1991); the UN Institute for Training and Research Workshop for diplomats from various parts of the world at the UN headquarters on debt and financial management for developing countries (2001 and 2002). He has received numerous awards: Honorary Doctor of Science from the Federal University of Technology, Yola; Honorary Doctor of Technology from Enugu State University of Science and Technology; Honorary Doctor of Science from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka; 1988 Outstanding Young Manufacturing Engineer Award by the Society of Manufacturing Engineering; 1992 Outstanding Young Industrial Engineer Award; Fellow of Nigerian Academy of Science; Fellow of the Institute of Industrial Engineers (IIE), Fellow of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers; the U.S. Secretary of State's Distinguished Public Service Award (1995); Distinguished Scientist Award by the World Bank – IMF Africa Group (October 1998); the national honor – Commander of the Order of Niger by Nigerian Head of State (January 1999); the national honor – Officer of the Order of Niger by Nigerian President (November 16, 2000); the ARCO Excellence in Science & Technology Award (2001); Baker Distinguished Research Award (the highest research award given by the IIE) (May 2001); and the 2004 Nigerian National Order of Merit (NNOM) – Nigeria’s highest intellectual merit award. Professor Nnaji has a B.S. in Physics from St. John's University with distinction; an M.S. and Ph.D. in Industrial and Systems Engineering from Virginia Tech, and obtained a certificate of Postdoctoral studies in Artificial Intelligence and Robotics from MIT.

Margaret van der Merwe completed her electrical engineering degree at the University of Stellenbosch in 1991. Her first position was as factory engineer at an export and EU approved red meat abattoir. Thereafter, she joined the consultancy fraternity and specialised in project development, management and continuous improvement initiatives. Returning to her home country, she set up a consultancy office in the same disciplines as well as became involved in establishing the electrical engineering department at the Polytechnic of Namibia. She became the head of the department. In July 2003 she joined NamPower’s executive management as the Head of Generation. Since July 2004 she is dedicated to leading the Kudu Gas to Power project for NamPower

Mr Len van Wyk is the CEO and a founding shareholder of Amatola Green Power (Pty) Ltd, a company which has pioneered the development of a voluntary trading market whereby electricity generated from renewable energy sources is fed into the national grid and sold to willing buyers. He is also a founding member of the national TRECS (Tradable Renewable Energy Certificates) governing council which is advising the minister on the governance and regulatory frameworks required to enable the issuing of TRECS which are internationally recognised and accepted. He is a graduate in both commercial and legal fields (B-Com 1979, UWC; and B Proc 1993, UNISA) and has wide business experience and acumen attained over a 25 year period by serving in various financial, general and senior executive management roles in South African corporations.
