Renewable energy, energy efficiency and Demand Side Management – effective
strategies for achieving clean and secure energy
|
The Federal Government’s pledge to increase the mandatory renewable energy target to 20% by 2020 signifies a major step towards a cleaner and more sustainable future. The benefits of renewable energy in combating climate change and achieving energy security have been widely touted, yet energy companies worldwide are grappling with issues of cost and scalability.
How can utilities and renewable generators ensure their business strategy meets policy requirements? How should renewable energy resources be considered in fuel source planning? How can renewable energy sources be successfully integrated into transmission networks? What are the requirements for attracting further investment to build on existing generation capacity and to develop new projects?
This interactive session will provide a global overview of the major drivers of renewable energy. Through case studies and practical leanings, the masterclass is designed to equip you with the tools and insights to adopt an action-based strategy for achieving sustainability and maintaining growth.
Agenda:
8.30 Registration and welcome coffee
9.00 Commencement of masterclass
- Evaluation of policy scenarios – deciding the best mix of policies to meet mandatory renewable energy targets
- Roadmap towards commercialisation – strategies for supporting and financing emerging renewable energy technologies
- Optimising transmission and distribution grids – transmission corridor designation, transmission and generation siting and permitting, feed-in tariffs and options for distributing the costs
- Demand Side Management (DSM) – facilitating networkdriven DSM and meeting capex challenges
- Technology platforms that support real time DSM
- Renewable Distributed Generation opportunities and challenges
- Growing the Green electricity market – differentiating retail renewable energy offerings under an emissions trading scheme
- Greenhouse gas reduction programs – what works, what doesn’t? Evaluating various Kyoto-type programs and global schemes such as RECs
12:30 Close of masterclass
