Simon Bates is a project manager for Cambridgeshire County Council’s ‘Youth Opportunity Card’ and has been working with the Government of the United Kingdom for 2 years on the development of an entitlement card for young people. Simon’s area of experience is in project development children and young people’s services; prior to this project he developed an arts based social development programme for juvenile offenders and produced research into the housing needs of teenage parents. Simon qualified as a Youth and Community Worker, is a PRINCE2 practitioner and also lectures in Ethics and Organisational behaviour at Anglia Ruskin University in Cambridge.

Robert is recognised as one of the top industry specialists in the e-money arena and has advised many top financial institutions such as Citibank, GE Bank, Morgan Stanley and Diners Club as well as technology providers including Yodlee, Money Supermarket and Yahoo. He is also a founding Director on the steeting committee of Prepaid International Forum, the body that has been set up to be the voice of the prepaid industry. He also acts for many players in the prepaid world such as PPT, APS, Tuxedo, Altair and M-Cube to name a few.

The new business unit, FNB Mobile and Transact Solutions, has played a pivotal role in shaping the mobile banking industry in South Africa. Relaunching FNB Cellphone Banking in 2005 with an innovative service that allowed users to bank via SMS, Len introduced a period of rapid mobile banking growth not only for FNB, but for the entire banking industry. His business unit has been responsible for growing Cellphone Banking volumes to nearly one million transactions per month in only two years and have grown FNB’s prepaid sales by a staggering 400%.
As CEO, Len’s responsibilities include Cellphone Banking, Pre Paid sales and Cell Pay Point, a newly introduced mobile payment service for FNB South Africa. He was also responsible for the implementation of Cellphone Banking and Pre Paid services for FNB Botswana and FNB Namibia, thus increasing his already considerable African experience.
His vast knowledge and experience in Africa have also led to Len’s role as a non executive director of Celpay, a FirstRand subsidiary that operates a cellphone based financial services company in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Zambia.

Chris Reddish is responsible for MasterCard Europe’s PrePaid activities in Europe. As such, he heads up the Prepaid cross-functional team, covering 53 country markets across the Europe region. He is responsible for the local alignments of MasterCard’s Prepaid development, product management and implementation strategy within the region. An experienced business director, Chris comes to MasterCard with over 20 years of middle and senior management experience in financial services and other Blue Chip sectors. Most recently, Chris was Chief Operating Officer and Managing Director for PrePay Technologies Limited, an international market leader in the design and delivery of innovative prepaid solutions. Responsible for ongoing operational and new business project delivery, Chris managed a two-fold growth of PrePay’s staff team, resulting in a quadrupling of sales revenue. Prior to this, Chris held a number of senior roles within organizations such as Dresdner Kleinwort Wasserstein, Petroleum Geo-Services and various UK Government departments, which included international operations and project planning. Chris’s interests include mountaineering, motor and water sports. He is a founding member of the Prepaid International Forum and representative at the Electronic Money Association

Thaer is Chief Executive of the Electronic Money Association, the trade body representing electronic money issuers and payment service providers in the EEA. These include card payment schemes, e-money issuers and payment service providers. He has represented the interests of e-money firms with regulators on a variety of topics from financial regulation to anti money laundering and risk. The EMA is a member of the JMLSG and drafts the Money Laundering Sectoral guidance for e-money issuers which forms part of JMLSG Guidance.
Thaer is also Director of Flawless Money Limited, a niche consultancy focusing on payments and e-money. It has represented e-money issuers in their applications for authorisation, in passporting into the EU and assisted issuers in developing internal systems and controls.
Previously Thaer acted as European counsel for beenz.com, and regulatory manager at Mondex International.
