Richard Nunn
Head of Private Bank
Commomwealth Private Bank

Richard Nunn joined the Commonwealth Bank of Australia in August 2003.  He is currently General Manager Private Bank, responsible for providing banking and advisory services to the CBA’s high net worth clients.  Prior to that Richard was General Manager of Distribution at Colonial First State, overseeing all aspects of CBA’s Wealth Management distribution including third party, direct, corporate superannuation, CBA’s advice businesses and CommInsure’s retail distribution.
Richard joined the Commonwealth Bank of Australia from IOOF, where he was General Manager, Retail Funds Management.  He first joined the financial services industry in 1988.

Between 1988 and 2000 he held various positions at AXA Asia Pacific Holdings Ltd.  These included National Retail Sales Manager and Head of AXA Advisor Services and Business Manager, International Operations.

Richard holds a Bachelor of Business, and a Graduate Diploma in Economics.  In addition to this he is a Graduate member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, having completed their Diploma course and a Graduate of the Harvard Business School’s Advanced Management Program.

Ralf Hohwieler is Head of Private Bank at Bank of New Zealand, based in Auckland.

Prior to joining Bank of New Zealand in 2003, Mr. Hohwieler was Director of European Business Development with The Industrial Bank of Japan (now Mizuho Corporate Bank) in London. He previously worked for almost 10 years in international financial markets with Royal Bank of Canada Group in a number of senior roles, based in both Frankfurt and London.

Graham Reeve is the Managing Director of The Myer Family Office.  The Myer Family Office was created in 1986 to service the needs of the now 63 descendants of Sidney and Merlyn Myer.  Since 1999, the Myer Family Office has been accepting other high net worth clients and was voted the 2005 and 2006 best provider of Family Office Services in Australia by Euromoney.

Graham was previously a tax and financial planning partner with Arthur Andersen.  He joined The Myer Family Office in September 2002.  Graham has over 30 years experience in advising high net worth families.

Graham is a guest lecturer at the University of Melbourne teaching both undergraduate and post graduate personal financial management.

Graham has been married for 30 years, has three adult sons and four grandchildren.  He has extensive charitable, community and church interests, including being a lay preacher.

George Nikas works for Deutsche Bank Private Wealth Management in Australia and provides investment advice to high net worth clients and family groups. He has over 10 years experience, having previously also worked at MLC.

Within a team structure the areas of specialisation include financial structuring including asset allocation strategies, along with the provision of extensive technical support to the firm’s Private Bankers in relation to such areas as managed funds, structured investments, economic and market strategy. This involves the provision of research, strategy, analysis and development of quantitative models to assist Private Bankers in the formulating and deployment of the most efficient client investment strategies and investment products.

George holds a Bachelor of Commerce Degree from the University of NSW and a Post Graduate Diploma with the Securities Institute of Australia.

Guy Hedley

Stuart Cain

Stuart Cain works for Goldman Sachs JBWere in Australia and provides Private Client Wealth Management advice to high net worth clients and family groups. He has over 15 years experience having worked for the major chartered accounting firm and a number of international fund managers.

Within a team structure the areas of specialisation include financial structuring including superannuation strategies, taxation planning, financing arrangements and asset protection measures including insurance and intergenerational wealth transfers. In addition an appropriate asset allocation framework is developed for each client within an agreed risk profile prior to providing specific investment product recommendations.  

Stuart holds a Bachelor of Economics degree from Macquarie University and is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants. He has completed a Diploma of Financial Planning and is a Certified Financial Planner. In 1988 Stuart completed his MBA specialising in finance and portfolio management.

Anthony is the Chief Executive of First Samuel Limited, a position he has held since founding the company in 1999. He has 27 years’ experience in the investment and finance industry. He worked with J.P. Morgan Investment for nine years, most recently as Regional Head of Marketing Asia-Pacific, based in Singapore.
He also spent 10 years with Schroders PLC in a variety of capital markets and treasury related capacities in Melbourne, Sydney, Tokyo and London. Immediately prior to the establishment of First Samuel in 1999, he was the Managing Director of Norwich Investment Management.
He is a Chartered Financial Analyst, holds Bachelor degrees in both Laws and Economics from Monash University, has completed the University of Oxford Advanced Management Program, is a fellow of the Australian Institute of Banking and Finance, and a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, the CFA Institute and the Financial Planning Association.
He is a director of First Samuel Limited, Ruyton Girls’ School and the Melbourne Football Club and is also trustee of a number of charitable foundations.

Jack Pearce consults to the Financial Services sector. Originally trained in mathematics and science, Jack chose to move to the commercial world in the late 1980’s. He joined the financial services industry full time in 1989 and has continuously been a proper authority holder since 1991 making him an early entrant to the world of financial planning and funds management.
After 5 years with a major mutual and fund manager, Jack moved to a boutique independent Licenced Dealer operating under an unrestricted Dealers Licence. As a Proper Authority holder he and his business partner Anne Callahan built a practice, which has the hallmarks of scholarship and a “broad curriculum”. Milestones include being a “Top ten” producer within the Lonsdale Network.

Tom has over 23 years experience in financial markets, all of which have been served in Merrill Lynch's private client division.  In addition to his extensive experience in the product sales and development side of the business, Tom has had responsibility for leading and growing our private client businesses here in Australia as well London, UK and Geneva, Switzerland.

Tom joined Merrill Lynch in 1983 in the Bond Fund Division in New York. Between 1988 and 1994, he served in the Options/Futures Product Group, where he led the product development in Commodity Funds and Hedge Funds and was responsible for sales in Asia Pacific, Latin America and the Middle East.

Tom moved into Market Management in 1995 when he transferred to Sydney to run the private client business in Australia and New Zealand.  Tom moved to Geneva in 1998 to operate the local brokerage business and lead the marketing efforts in Europe and the Middle East.  Tom relocated to London in 2002 to take responsibility for running the London office with specific country responsibilities for Turkey, Greece and Israel.

Tom returned to Sydney in May 2004 to take up his current position as Head of Global Wealth Management for Australia and New Zealand. Tom is also Division Sales Director for the Asia Pacific Division, which comprises Merrill Lynch's businesses in Hong Kong, Singapore, Seoul, Bangkok, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Sydney and Melbourne.

Tom has a Bachelor of Economics degree from Rider University in Lawrenceville, New Jersey, and a Masters of Business Administration in International Finance from Fordham University in New York.

He also has military experience with over eight years as a Commissioned Naval Officer successfully retiring from the Navy at Lieutenant Rank after he became one of the youngest commanding officers of a Naval ship since WW II.

Dr Douglas Turek

Doug is the founder of the unique wealth research project, Wealth benchmarks, which has helped wealthy Australians learn more about their finances and whether they are on track compared to others. Since January 2007, nearly 50,000 have visited the site, many after reading about this industry information service in major magazines, newspapers and online journals including the BRW Rich. About 10% of participants are worth more than $5m and 2/3rds are millionaires.

Turek is a former Boston Consulting Group senior advisor. There he worked with executives of Australian and Asian financial institutions and also conducted benchmarking studies of Australian private banking, asset management and other wealth management businesses. This background, along with work with clients of his boutique personal wealth advisory firm who often asked "How do I compare?", became the inspiration for Wealth benchmarks.

At this conference Doug will be formally releasing, and sharing findings from the "Personal Finances of Wealthy Australians: 2008 Instiutional Report".

Joined Ansbacher Group in 1985 within their banking division and was promoted over the next 8 years to end up running the small treasury team. In 1993, joined ANZ Bank in Guernsey as a Relationship Manager responsible for a portfolio of private and intermediary clients, where I was until 2000 when the ANZ Group decided to sell its operation in Guernsey to Bank of Butterfield, now known as Butterfield Bank.

At the time of purchase I was running the Private Banking Team. At Butterfield Bank took over the responsibility as Business Development Manager, the job I did until 2002, when I was promoted to Head of Private Banking & Business Development. Within this role I was part of the Senior Management of the Bank, sitting on the executive committee and travel extensively worldwide meeting and marketing our clients.

In 2006 an opportunity arose to work with the same group, in a new location and I moved with my family to the Bahamas in the Caribbean, where I assumed the executive role of Vice President & Head of Private Banking. This role is extensive and has reporting to it Banking, Trust & Corporate, Credit/Lending, Business Development, Marketing and Operational Risk Management. I sit on a number of executive committee’s.

Kym Madden has over 20 years’ experience in marketing and communication, especially in the services field. She has a PhD in building relationships in the financial services sector and has been researching in the nonprofit/philanthropy field for the past six years.
In particular she has been tracking changes to financial advisors’ attitudes to assisting high net worth clients with philanthropy. She also recently engaged in national research with affluent Australians. As well as private giving, her interests extend to community engagement by businesses.

Kym has advised a diverse range of leading public and private sector organisations including the Australian Taxation Office and the Prime Minister’s Community Business Partnership. She is a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and other professional groups, and has several years’ experience as a Board member in the nonprofit field.

Christopher Thorn

Prior to her employment with Goldman Sachs JB Were, Kelley was employed by National Australia Bank as Group Manager for Corporate Community Investment.  In this role she was responsible for providing strategy and consolidated reporting of the bank’s own philanthropic donations and partnerships, volunteering efforts and community sponsorships.  Before relocating to Australia, Kelley worked for Bank of America for more than 14 years.  Her last role was Director of Charitable Trust Services.  This specialist unit helped high net worth donors throughout New England create and implement charitable strategies.  Kelley is also a licensed Certified Financial Planner (US).

The operations of the new venture in India cover Wealth Management, Stock Broking, Retail Distribution, Corporate Finance, Portfolio Management, Asset Management, Real Estate Advisory and Research Services. A startup in India, the company has grown, in just over one year, to 275 employees and is expected to cross 1000 employees by December 2007.
