Mr Ivan Albertini

Ivan is the Senior Solutions Director for Oracle’s Utilities Industry Business Unit with primary responsibilities for Asia Pacific and Japan. He is also Oracle’s Global Industry Business Unit Leader for Utilities. Ivan has well over twenty years of professional experience in Information and Communications Technology, the majority of which relates to the management and consulting roles he has held in multi service as well as electricity, gas and water utilities in Australia. He has a great deal of experience in utility unbundling as well as the implementation and managing of ERP systems in utility organisations.
Ivan has a business-oriented approach to Information and Communications Technology and places a major emphasis on aligning technology with organisational strategic goals and needs. He has a deep understanding of information management practices and is highly regarded for his ability to design and implement processes, information, applications and technology in utilities, to derive optimal operational efficiencies and maximise strategic benefit.
Ivan holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the Graduate School of Management at the University of Western Australia. His major area of focus was in the strategic use of information for business advantage.
Ivan has been with Oracle for over three years and in that time, he has seen Oracle’s Utilities capabilities grow from traditional ERP Applications and Technology to now having the most complete solution for Utilities. Ivan predicts a bright future for Oracle in Utilities and especially having responsibilities for countries such as China, India and Australia where he sees some of the largest growth and most exciting IT applications being deployed.

Mr David Baldwin

After completing his bachelor of engineering (chemical and process) from the University of Canterbury in 1985, Mr Baldwin joined Shell in Wellington as a project engineer at the company’s surfactant manufacturing complex in Petone where his responsibilities included the development of a surfactant additives facility and undertaking projects on the company’s existing facilities. In 1989, Mr Baldwin relocated to Shell’s global headquarters in The Hague, the Netherlands, where he worked on the development of large-scale petrochemical projects. His assignment in the Netherlands continued in 1991 when he was posted as an Assistant Section Head at Shell’s Pernis manufacturing complex near Rotterdam. While he was at Pernis Mr Baldwin’s responsibilities included overseeing the operations of three petrochemical facilities.
Mr Baldwin attended Victoria University in 1993 to undertake a master of business administration. Following completion in 1994, he joined SouthPac Corporation, the then merchant banking arm of the National Bank of New Zealand, as a manager responsible for economic and risk analyses in support of merger and acquisition opportunities for the firm’s energy clients. In early 1995, Mr Baldwin was seconded to AsiaPower Developments, a joint venture between SouthPac and Brierley Investments and relocated to Jakarta, Indonesia, to manage the development of a geothermal power project for AsiaPower. In 1997, Mr Baldwin joined CalEnergy International, an affiliate of MidAmerican Energy Holdings Company, in Indonesia as vice president development, where he was responsible for new business and project development in Asia, including supporting the development and construction of CalEnergy’s six geothermal power projects located in Indonesia and the Philippines. In May 1998, Mr Baldwin relocated to Manila, Philippines, as president of MidAmerican’s Philippine business which, in addition to 550 MW of geothermal power, included the development and construction of the US$650 million Casecnan multipurpose irrigation and hydroelectric power project. Mr Baldwin left the Philippines in 2004 to take up an assignment as senior vice president with responsibility for global development and acquisitions including public and private utilities, LNG projects, gas storage and transmission assets in MidAmerican’s Omaha, Nebraska, headquarters.
Mr Baldwin left Mid American in mid-2005 to join the Chicago-based alternative investment fund, Ritchie Capital, at the firm’s Hong Kong office. From September 2005, Mr Baldwin was responsible for a team of investment managers involved in the development, acquisition and oversight of US$800 million of private equity investments in the energy sector in the Americas and Asia.

Dixon originally joined DoE in 1997 and has been employed in a variety of senior positions addressing policy analysis, research and development programs. In 2004 the U.S. President honored Dixon with the U.S. government Senior Executive Service Gold Award for service to DoE and the nation
Dr. Dixon led two U.S. Presidential Initiatives from 1992-1998: the U.S. Country Studies Program and the U.S. Initiative on Joint Implementation to advance the strategic goals of the U.N. Framework Convention on Climate Change (FCCC). Dixon has served on the U.S. negotiating team for the U.N. FCCC since 1990. Geesman was originally appointed as a Commissioner on the California Energy Commission in 2002, to fill an un-expired term and was reappointed to a full five-year term by Governor Gray Davis on December 31, 2002, and was confirmed by the Senate. He currently fills the Attorney position on the five member Commission where 4 of the 5 members by law are required to have professional training in specific areas—engineering or physical science, environmental protection, economics and law. Commissioner Geesman serves as Presiding Member of the Energy Commission’s Renewables Committee and the Facility Siting Committee, and as Associate Member on the Research, Development and Demonstration Committee, the Electricity Committee, and the Integrated Energy Policy Report Committee.

Andrew was previously the National Head of Ernst and Young’s environmental advisory division (and prior to this held the same role with Andersen) and was the lead advisor to the New South Wales Government in relation to implementing its Greenhouse Gas Abatement Scheme. Just prior to joining CO2 Group, Andrew was the Executive Manager, Sustainable Packaging, at Visy Industrial Packaging. Andrew has extensive experience in broad acre land management and has managed extensive areas of public land (National Parks, State Forest, Coastal Parks) in Victoria. He is a widely recognized authority on climate change and business risk management. Carl Hansen is the Chief Executive of M-co New Zealand and is also the General Manager of M-co’s consulting team. Carl holds a Master of Arts in Economics from the University of Michigan.
Carl has been advising clients on electricity sector issues for 8 years, concentrating primarily on wholesale electricity market, transmission pricing and investment, and hedge market issues. He has chaired several advisory groups for the Electricity Commission and its predecessor in these areas.
Carl has previously worked for the Law and Economics Consulting Group (LECG Ltd), the New Zealand Treasury, the New Zealand Business Roundtable, and the Reserve Bank of New Zealand.

Mr Murray Jackson

Murray Jackson was appointed Chief Executive of Genesis Power Limited on 1 April, 1999 following the split up of ECNZ into competing generation and retailing businesses and their separation from monopoly transmission and distribution network service providers. Genesis Power Limited has generating capacity of 1 600 MW; comprising hydro, thermal, wind and cogeneration plants, as well as a large portfolio of commercial and industrial customers and approximately 600,000 residential electricity and gas customers. Genesis Power has interests in coal and gas, including a 70 per cent share of the off-shore Kupe gas field.
Murray holds a Masters Degree in Business, a Bachelor Degree in Economics and a Diploma in Mechanical Engineering. He is a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers, Australia and a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering.
Murray’s engineering career included the commissioning of 200MW, 500MW and 660MW coal fired power plants in Victoria and New South Wales.
In 1993 Murray took up the position of Commissioner of the Snowy Mountains Hydro-Electric Authority, a dual electricity generation and irrigation scheme located within Australia’s high alpine Kosciouszko National Park. Responsibility included restructuring the Authority to participate in the National Electricity Market as a provider of 3 700MW of renewable energy.
On 1 April, 1999 Murray moved to Auckland, New Zealand to establish Genesis Power Ltd as a state owned enterprise, competing in the New Zealand wholesale and retail energy markets. Genesis has assets valued in excess of NZ$1.2 billion and turnover of NZ$1.4 billion per annum and is active in development of new generation opportunities in New Zealand.
Murray is a guarantor member of the Mt Eliza Business School in Melbourne, Chairman of the Genesis Oncology Trust and Chairman of Energy on Line, a wholly owned subsidiary of Genesis Power Limited.
Murray was awarded the Centenary Medal by the Australian Government in June 2003 for service to industry and society.

Mr Jewell was born and raised in Canada’s Alberta basin and has some 30 years of experience in the international oil and gas industry, having worked in Africa, the Middle East, the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia and Canada. Mr Jewell has held a variety of technical and senior executive roles in previous positions with Amoco, Elf and Santos ranging from president of Amoco Oman to responsibility for a $100 million per year exploration and appraisal budget in the Deep Water Gulf of Mexico.

Richard Krogh is the Chief Executive of Powerco Limited, leading the executive management team and managing the company’s broad range of business interests.
Mr Krogh is an electrical engineer with over 12 years in electricity utility engineering, planning and operating. He also has significant experience in both gas and electricity asset management and general management in the distribution utility sector.
Mr Krogh’s general management experience includes strategic planning, change and integration management, network pricing, commercial contract negotiation and management, organisation and process design, organisation culture and human resource strategy. His engineering experience encompasses network modeling and planning, conceptual design, economic/feasibility studies, project and contract management, maintenance management and utility asset management.
He joined Powerco in September 2000 during the merger with CentralPower where he held executive and management positions. Before joining CentralPower he had held a variety of engineering positions within the electricity industry. At Powerco he has held the positions of General Manager Network Assets, Chief Operating Officer, and was appointment as Chief Executive in 2006.

Mr Paul Quinn

Paul Quinn, was the founder of Canterbury Biodiesel and has more than 15 years experience in the automotive industry. In May 2007, one of New Zealand’s major energy companies, Solid Energy acquired the business, renaming it Biodiesel New Zealand and appointed Paul as General Manager.
The company plans to increase annual production to 70 million litres within three years which will meet more than half the Government’s 2012 target for biofuels. At the time of the acquisition, Biodiesel New Zealand was producing about 1 million litres of biodiesel a year from its plant in Addington, Christchurch, by converting used cooking oil collected from restaurants and other food processing businesses in the South Island and has expanded used oil collection into the North Island.
The company is also investigating the potential for producing biodiesel from energy crops such as canola. Biodiesel’s current customers are operators of fleets, including bus, trucking and earthmoving companies which operate very high ratio blends made up of 60 to 100% biodiesel.

Chris Raine heads Alstom’s operations in Australia and New Zealand as Country
President and Managing Director.
In his early career, he worked on power plant projects with Pacific Power (formerly known as the Electricity Commission of NSW) and subsequently Snowy Hydro. Later, he moved to the private sector, joining Transfield where he was responsible for business development and sales roles covering the South-East Asian and Australian Power Generation markets. In 1998 Chris relocated to Malaysia with Asea Brown Boveri as Managing Director of ABB Power Generation Sdn Bhd.
When Alstom acquired Asea Brown Boveri’s power generation business in 2000, Chris became the Managing Director of the new company - Alstom Power Asia Pacific. At the same time he was appointed as Country President for Alstom in Malaysia.
Chris is a Fellow of the Institute of Engineers, Australia, and the Australian Institute of Company Directors. He is Deputy President of the NSW Branch Executive - Australian Industry Group (AiG), and also serves actively as a member on the Industry Advisory Network of the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) Engineering Faculty.
Chris Raine graduated in Mechanical Engineering (BEng) from the University of New South Wales and holds a MBA from the University of Technology Sydney.

David Salisbury graduated from Victoria University of Wellington. He started his career in Bell Gully Buddle Weir and Reeves Middleton Young as commercial solicitor. He later moved to Petrocorp Exploration (later Fletcher Challenge Energy), initially as an economic analyst before later becoming responsible for managing legal and commercial affairs, environmental affairs and land access issues
In 1997, he joined Ernst & Young as an energy consultant before returning to Fletcher Challenge Energy as a commercial executive working in the New Zealand gas business. He later became the manager responsible for New Zealand gas business.

Stephen Selwood is Chief Executive Officer of the New Zealand Council for Infrastructure Development. NZCID aims to promote the provision of world class infrastructure in New Zealand through public and private sector collaboration.
The Council’s mission is to highlight the direct link between world class infrastructure and New Zealand’s capacity to achieve its economic and social potential. NZCID is also concerned to identify impediments to infrastructure provision - and to promote positive solutions.
Until his appointment as CEO for NZ Council for Infrastructure Development, Stephen held various senior management positions with the New Zealand Automobile Association.
He is well known in local body, central government, and media circles for his expertise on infrastructure development in New Zealand. He is a regular commentator and guest speaker both in the media and in public forums on this subject. |

Christine Southey was appointed as the Chief Executive of the Gas Industry Co Limited in 2007: the entity established by the gas industry to make recommendations to the Minister of Energy for rules and regulations and industry arrangements on a variety of matters relating to the wholesaling retailing, processing, transmission and distribution of gas.
Prior to her appointment with the Gas Industry Co, Christine was a Commissioner with the Electricity Commission which has responsibility for overseeing the operation of the New Zealand electricity markets and regulation of the electricity industry. • Gas Marketing Representative for Harriet Joint Venture
• Non Operators representative for Bayu Undan Gas Project
• Responsible for divestment of Bond Corporations $1.4 billion energy assets
Since Ian’s appointment as CEO of Nexus in August 2002, the company has undergone a substantial growth period, securing a quality portfolio of exploration and appraisal assets in the Gippsland, Browse, Bonaparte and Vlaming basins. Ian also finalised the company’s recent acquisition of the Echuca Shoals gas discovery.
Under Ian’s stewardship Nexus will progress the appraisal and development of the Crux gas condensate field and Longtom gas discovery as well as drilling 5 exploration prospects.
Nexus’ strategy is to secure highly prospective exploration acreage at high equity levels with a view to gaining leverage from its technical and commercial skills. Under this strategy Nexus’ market capitalisation has grown from A$2 million to a current A$ 137 million in the last 3 years

Jeff Troon is the Chief Executive of Venture Southland the economic development agency for Southland. Jeff has 15 years experience in economic development, and has had involvement in a wide range of initiatives. Prior to his involvement in economic development, Jeff was Director of Technical Services for a large local authority. Venture Southland has initiated a detailed assessment of Southland’s current and future energy needs and resources, along with a strategy to address the identified issues and opportunities. The sustainable development of the Southland economy, like most Regions, will be dependent on securing sustainable energy supply at reasonable cost.

Phil Watson is Commercial Manager NZ for Methanex New Zealand Ltd. In the 6 years that Phil has been with Methanex his primary focus has been in the area of gas supply and he is responsible for the negotiation and administration of gas purchase contracts for the New Zealand methanol plants. Prior to joining Methanex Phil held a variety of commercial roles over a period of 15 years in the upstream E&P sector. Phil holds a BSc in Geology from Victoria University of Wellington.

Gareth Wilson manages the electricity policy group at the Ministry of Economic Development. Prior to joining the Ministry four years ago, he worked at the Commerce Commission on developing the targeted control regime for electricity lines businesses. Gareth's previous electricity sector experience, since 1990, includes pricing roles with ECNZ and Transpower, and as a consultant.

Dr Rob Whitney is Managing Director of CRL Energy Ltd, New Zealand’s premier energy research, science and technology organisation. With a staff of 40, the main laboratories are in Wellington; with other sites in Christchurch, Hamilton and Greymouth. CRL Energy has Government research contracts for hydrogen energy, environmental impacts of mining, and greenhouse gas reduction. It has a major project producing fuel cell quality hydrogen streams from sub-bituminous coal and lignite using a fluid bed gasifier.
Dr. Whitney has a BSc (Hons) degree in Industrial Chemistry , a PhD in Polymer Chemistry , and is a Fellow and past National President of the New Zealand Institute of Chemistry. He has been Chairman of the Energy Federation of New Zealand (The NZ WEC Committee) since 2000. He has led the WEC Asia Pacific Cross Border Greenhouse Gas Reduction initiatives from its inception in 2001. He is the NZ representative on the International Committee for Coal Research, and a past president of Rotary Club of Port Nicholson. |
