About our Masterclass leaders Dr Tom Cudahy,
Geologist & Group Leader
for Minerals and Environmental Sensing,
CSIRO Exploration and Mining, Australia
Tom Cudahy is a geologist and leader of CSIRO’s Minerals and Environmental Sensing Group based at the Australian Resources Research Centre in Perth, Western Australia.
He has an undergraduate degree in structural geology from Macquarie University and a PhD from Curtin University with a thesis based on silicate and surface scattering mapping using an airborne multi-line CO2 laser. He has led numerous national and international collaborative research projects and been a member of various satellite science teams including ASTER and Hyperion. He has also worked with airborne SEBASS, HyMap, ARGUS and
Geoscan Mk II airborne image data and is currently focused on developing remote hyperspectral capabilities for delivering accurate mineral and environmental composition maps of Australia for the resources industry in collaboration with the government mapping agencies of Australia.

This masterclass is targeted at geologists and mining engineers actively
involved with, or about to become involved with, resource estimation and all parties working with either inputs to resource estimation or resource models for mine planning. It will give a clear understanding of geostatistics and how it is used in resource estimation. Each aspect of the resource estimation process is examined, using presentations, practical exercises, activities and case studies.
You will:
- Gain an outline of ore reserve estimation and modeling procedures
- Learn how to choose the best modeling system
- Acquire a thorough understanding of fundamentals and how to apply them on site
