Mattar Mohammed Al Tayer, the Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of the Roads & Transport Authority is a dynamic and progressive leader with superior managerial and organizational skills. Mr. Al Tayer is a strong promoter and supporter of continual improvement and development. He also possesses excellent problem solving and decision making skills. In November 2005, H.H. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, UAE Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai appointed Al Tayer as the Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of the newly established Roads and Transport Authority (RTA). In his capacity as the Executive Director of RTA, Mattar Mohammed Al Tayer is responsible for fulfilling Dubai’s Transportation needs including Roads, Buses, Metro, Marine and other modes of transport. Since RTA’s establishment in November 2005, Al Tayer established a strong managerial and professional base to ensure that RTA meets the increasing transportation demands of Dubai. In this regard, RTA’s vision of “Safe and Smooth Transport for All” reflects RTA’s commitment to providing integrated transportation solutions that exceed the public’s expectations and meet the development plans of the emirate. In the short period since its establishment, RTA launched several new projects in addition to those projects carried over from Dubai Municipality. Earlier he spent many years at MAV Co., Ltd. from 1986-1990 as an engineer for the line section (track maintenance), from 1990-1995 as a development engineer he was responsible for the controlling of track reconstruction works Kelenföld - Budafok, Kelenföld - Nagytétény etc., from 1995-1999. as an engineer for the line section (controlling of truck reconstruction works Budapest - Vác, Budapest - Veresegyház - Vác, Verőce - Szob), from 1999-2001 as an engineer for economic and technical controlling (controlling and checking several works). In 2001 he became Deputy Head of Unit as a site supervisor and project manager in BILC project and the Track construction works of Komárom – Ács project. From 2004 he became Project Manager in ISPA track construction works of Ács – Győrszentiván project, direction of all investment works in the area, control the works of the site supervisors. From 2005 to 2007 he was a project manager in ISPA construction works. Mr Balogh is now a Project Director of Budapest Transport Privately Held Corporation DBR Metro Project Directorate with responsibility to the new - 4th - metro line project in Budapest.

A graduate of Ecole des Mines de Paris, with two engineering degrees, Frédéric Baverez started his career in the administration in the Department of Industry and the Department of Finance and Economy. From 1995 to 1997, he joined the personal office of the Secretary for Transport. From 1997 to 2005, he worked for the SUEZ Group at several leading positions in the Waste Division and the Environment Branch. In his final position at the SUEZ Group he was responsible for the Procurement Department. He took up his current position at Keolis in 2005. With a €2.5 billion turnover and 33 000 employees, Keolis is one of the major European player in the public transportation business with 1.7 billion passengers per year.

Mr. Dotta was born in Piana Crixia (SV) on July 3, 1954 and took a degree in Electronic Engineering at Turin Polytechnic in 1979. Since 1983 Eugenio has been a part of the FinmeccanicaTrasportation sector. Initially he was with Telettra, now Alcatel Italy, he then joined Ansaldo Trasporti in 1983 and was engaged in the design of railway signalling systems and then progressed to taking responsibility for systems management and tenders. Matthias Ernst, aged 45, is Vice President for Tyco Fire & Security’s Central European region. In that role, he is responsible for some 20 countries stretching from BeNeLux, via Scandinavia, Finland, to Central and Eastern Europe. His organisation develops, sells, installs and maintains a vast range of security and fire protection solutions with well-known brands such as ADT, Tyco Fire & Integrated Solutions, Total Walther, Inergen, Sensormatic, American Dynamics, and more. Matthias has studied economics in Mannheim, Germany, before he joined a manufacturer of supply chain automation products. In 1993, he moved to Austria to become Managing Director of Sensormatic, and subsequently, filled various European management positions in Paris, London and Budapest. Shortly after Tyco acquired Sensormatic in 2001, he moved back to Germany to manage the integrated ADT business for Central Europe, before he relocated to the Netherlands in 2006 after having assumed additional responsibility for Tyco’s fire protection business.

Cheryl leads the EIB’s structured, PPP and transport infrastructure financing team for UK, France and Ireland. She has extensive experience of financing transport projects and PPP and project finance structures. She joined the EIB in 1994 as an economist providing macroeconomic analysis of, and advice on the financing of projects located in countries outside the European Union. Prior to joining the Bank Cheryl worked as an economist, restructuring and privatisation advisor in an international advisory firm for eight years. As a consultant, she advised IFI’s, governments and corporates on energy sector reform and restructuring and the planning and financing of capital schemes primarily in Western and Eastern Europe.

Jonathan started his career in 1986 as an Operations Management Trainee with British Rail. This led to a number of operational and commercial jobs on British Rail’s former Southern Region culminating in a senior commercial role at London Bridge on the former South Eastern Division. In 1989 he joined the then Trainload Freight Business Unit managing various contracts in the petroleum sector. In 1992 he joined Rail Freight Distribution as part of the commercial team planning the launch of commercial services through the Channel Tunnel. This led to a number of commercial roles following the opening of the Tunnel in 1994, particularly in the automotive and intermodal sectors. In 1998 he joined Allied Continental Intermodal in Reading, a joint venture company between British and French Railways and Swiss forwarding company Intercontainer, as Chief Executive. In 2001 he moved to English Welsh and Scottish Railways (EWS) as General Manager of its International Division, taking responsibility for all through freight traffic passing through the Channel Tunnel. His tenure there included day to day management of the illegal immigrant crisis at Sangatte. In 2003 Jonathan joined Transport for London as Director Rail Projects reporting to Managing Director Rail, TfL, taking sponsorship responsibility for TfL’s involvement in such projects as Crossrail and the East London Line. In December 2004 became Director Docklands Light Railway Limited.

Colin joined the company, formerly known as Westinghouse Brakes, in 1999 as Project Manager for the Copenhagen Metro Platform Screen Door contract. He was subsequently promoted to his current role in 2002, and has built on the company's initial successes in Singapore, Hong Kong and Malaysia to turn WPSD into a truly global business. Recent contract wins include Toulouse Line B, Roissy Airport and Brescia Metrobus in Europe, Guangzhou Line 4, and Shanghai Line 1 Retrofit in China, and Dubai Metro in the UAE. Colin and his team recently received the KBRS Outstanding Performance Award for their contribution in support of company objectives. Prior to joining Westinghouse, Colin ran his own business, providing design and project management services for a diverse range of clients both in the UK and overseas. Colin is an Incorporated Engineer, and a member of the Institute of Engineering & Technology and the Chartered Institute of Marketing. In 1984 he attended to a specialisation course on Administration at the Getulio Vargas Foundation, in São Paulo. Ron Huberman was appointed President of the Chicago Transit Authority in May 2007. Huberman oversees the day-to-day operations of the second largest transit agency in the country. CTA’s 154 bus routes and eight rail routes provide nearly 1.6 million rides on an average weekday to Chicago and 40 surrounding suburbs. From 2005 to 2007, Huberman served as Chief of Staff for Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley. As Chief of Staff, Ron Huberman directed the operations of the City of Chicago’s 49 departments and 39,000 employees, and oversaw an annual budget of $5.7 billion. Huberman led the City’s reform initiatives to eliminate corruption in City government, and put in place a dynamic new performance management system to measure and reward the performance of every City department and employee. From 2004 to 2005, Huberman served as Executive Director of the City of Chicago Office of Emergency Management and Communications (OEMC).

Ms. Saw is the President and CEO of SMRT Corporation Ltd, a multi-modal public transport operator in Singapore comprising mass rapid transit, light rail, buses and taxis. With her vast and extensive experience in international corporate business prior to joining SMRT Corporation in December 2002, Phaik Hwa offers a fresh approach to the way public transport is managed and operated in Singapore. She has been instrumental in the development and implementation of new and key initiatives in the SMRT group of companies. In addition to the management of current operations, she is also working closely with the authorities on the development of a new 33.3km line that SMRT Corporation will operate by 2010. She sits on the Board of Trustees of the Singapore Management University, the Tan Tock Seng Hospital Community Charity Fund and Youth Business Singapore. She is also a resource panel member on the Government Parliamentary Committee (Transport). Ms. Saw graduated with an Honours degree in Biochemistry from the University of Singapore. She also attended an Advanced Management Programme at the University of Hawaii.

Christopher M A Jackson (49) was born and brought up in the southern suburbs of London, where he still lives. He is married, with two daughters. He was educated at Eltham College, and studied Business Administration & Transport Planning (Combined Honours) at the University of Aston in Birmingham. Chris has been a member of the Chartered Institute of Transport & Logistics since 1985, and was elected as a Fellow in 1997. He has also been a member of the UK’s Railway Study Association for more than 20 years. Chris joined Railway Gazette International as Editorial Assistant in April 1982. Two years later he was appointed Production Editor, in which post he oversaw the transfer of the magazine to computerised production. He became Assistant Editor in 1987, and Deputy Editor in 1991, at which time he also became Editor of RG's urban railways publication Metro Report. He served as Managing Editor of the fortnightly newsletter Rail Business Intelligence from its launch in 1995. In 2006 Chris became Editor of Railway Gazette International and Editor-in-Chief of the Railway Gazette group publications. Over the past 26 years, he has travelled extensively for the magazine, visiting and reporting on railway developments in more than 30 countries.

Born in 1953, Jean-Marc Janaillac is a graduate of the HEC (College of Advanced Commercial Studies) (1975) and a former alumnus of the ENA (1980). After starting his career as a Chief of Staff in the Prefecture, he worked as Chief of Staff to the Secretary of State for Tourism (1983-1984). He subsequently held the post of general manager of French official tourism services for North America in New York, from 1984 to 1987. At the end of that posting, he was appointed Director General of the Maison de la France (1987-1997), an economic interest grouping that handles the promotion of French tourism abroad. In that capacity, he was a member of the Air France board from 1989 to 1994. In 1997, Jean-Marc Janaillac joined the AOM airline as Executive Director of Sales before being appointed acting Director General two years later. He joined the Maeva Group as CEO in 2000 before being appointed to the Chair of the Paris Tourism and Conference Board in 2002. He has been serving as the RATP Group’s Managing Director for Development and as CEO of RATP Développement since November 2004.

President and Chief Executive Officer of both the British Columbia Rapid Transit Company (known as SkyTrain) and the West Coast Express commuter rail system. He is responsible for the operating assets exceeding $2.5 billion that cover much of Greater Vancouver and parts of the Fraser Valley. Doug has a strong private sector background in leading significant change to achieve top performance in both the private and public sectors including multi-national organizations. During his current tenure operating the Vancouver region’s urban passenger rail systems, he has significantly improved fiscal, operating performance and cost recovery by over 100% at West Coast Express. SkyTrain has also reduced its costs by many millions of dollars in just a few years while now carrying approximately 70 million riders per year and achieving an operating cost recovery last year of over 105%. Doug’s background includes; strategic planning, finance, mergers and divestitures, operations, asset management, marketing, distribution and real estate. He recently graduated from the CEO program at the Kellogg School of Business. In addition to President/CEO of SkyTrain and West Coast Express, Doug was the leader responsible for the development and defence of the transportation plan with the International Olympic Committee during the successful Vancouver 2010 Olympic bid phase. He is currently the Chairman of the Transportation Committee for 2010 Olympic Games.

Mr. Lam is the Director-Property of Hong Kong’s Kowloon-Canton Railway Corporation. He first qualified as a Chartered Building Surveyor and registered as an Authorized Person under the Buildings Ordinance of Hong Kong. He is a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and the Hong Kong Institute of Surveyors. He has been elected as a Chartered Arbitrator and listed on the London Panel of Arbitrators of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. Mr. Jerzy Lejk developed his professional career working for such municipal organizations as Warsaw Development Planning Office, Warsaw Voivoidship Office, Municipal Roads Authority, Warsaw City Governor’s Office. He was also a board member of one of the biggest international construction companies. He started working for Warsaw Metro Company in 2002, holding a position of the Deputy Director and in 2003 he became a Member of the Executive Board. He was responsible for the implementation of the project on the completion of the metro line I, which consists of four stations, four route tunnels (with the total length of 3.9 km) and a road junction with the Park and Ride System located next to the last metro station. In January 2006 Mr. Jerzy Lejk was appointed the President of the Board of Warsaw Metro Ltd, also responsible for supervising and the implementation of a major investment project in Warsaw, which is the Metro Line 2. Mr. Jerzy Lejk has a number of professional training certificates in the fields of construction and environmental protection within the remit of the EU regulations, Public Commission Law, PPP procedures and investment management.

Piero Marotta was born in 1960 and obtained an honours degree in Electronic Engineering from the University of Naples in 1987. Subsequently he was awarded an MBA from the Università Bocconi in Milan. Since graduating Piero has been a part of the Ansaldo Trasporti organisation. Initially he was involved in the Genoa Underground project (Brin-Dinegro), managing installation contracts before becoming Project Manager of Casalecchio-Vignola (Bologna) railway line. Subsequently, he was Deputy Project Manager for the Genoa Underground project (Principe-Brignole) and afterwards Project Manager for the installation of Contact Line for the Genoa trolleybus. He has been involved in the Copenhagen Project since its inception in 1996 and during the early bidding stages. Following the contract award, he was appointed as the Deputy Project Manager for the Transportation System construction contract. In 1999 he was appointed Project Manger for the Operation and Maintenance subcontract and assumed overall responsibility to the Client for the day to day revenue operation of the Metro which commenced in 2002. As part of a strategy to consolidate ATSF activities with the Operation and Maintenance Contract to run until 2010 and with the award of further extension contracts, Piero was assigned as Manager of the ATSF permanent establishment in Denmark in 2004.

From 2000 to 2002 he was the Project Manager of the 25 kV Traction Power Supply projects for all the Italian High Speed Railways: Rome-Naples, Bologna-Florence, Milan-Bologna and Turin-Milan. From 2003 to the present days he is the head of the Supervision, Control and Development department of Ansaldo Trasporti Sistemi Ferroviari SpA with the responsibility for the design and realisation of Telecommunication subsystems, SCADA subsystems, Signalling and Traffic Control subsystems, Auxiliary subsystem such as Platform Screen Doors, Ticketing etc, for all the projects of the Company. Main projects completed or in progress are : Brescia Metro, Copenhagen Metro, Rome Metro line C, Thessaloniki Metro, Milan Metro line 5, Dublin LRT lines A+C and B, Midland Metro line 1, Manchester Metrolink extension, Alifana Metro, Naples Metro line 1 and 6, Genoa Metro , Circumvesuviana suburban railway, etc.
