Ahmed Anees

Ahmed Anees is the Director of Corporate Development with the Saudi Binladin Group (SBG) which has been playing a vital role in the construction of Saudi Arabia’s infra-structure projects. The Corporate Business Development (CBD)  division was selected to proceed with the tendering of the North South Railway (NSR) projects and was successfully led by Mr Anees. CBD has plans to manage other NSR  and Saudi project packages for signaling and telecommunication and Operation and Maintenance. Mr Anees will be discussing the successful strategy Saudi Bin Ladin Group has used from bid to their current stage of construction giving insight into the challenges and successes they have faced.

Ali Abdul Qader, Director of Maintenance Department, RTA, Dubai. Having graduated from the University of Colorado at Denver in the United States in 1988, Ali Abdul Qader has worked most his career as Building Consultant. He has vast experience in all aspect of services like electrical, fire fighting & fire alarm as well as security. He has joined RTA in January 2006 as the director of maintenance for the Dubai Metro.
Mr. Ali Abdul Qader is the member of the security committee as well as fire & life safety committee & he along with other committee members look at all aspect of the security of the Dubai Metro system. And during the course of this time he has been coordinating the security matters with the police officials in Dubai.

Charbel M. Abou-Jaoude

Charbel M. Abou-Jaoude is the President & CEO – Investments for Agility – A New Logistics Leader. His area of responsibility covers all Agility investments including strategic initiatives, Merger and Acquisitions (M&A), as well as all other diversified investments outside the core logistics business of the group including a sizable real estate portfolio. Charbel was promoted from his role as Managing Director – Global Integrated Logistics after successfully driving the growth and development of Agility’s client offering and global platform. A seasoned executive Charbel has a proven track record of establishing and leading successful operations on a global basis and has broad technical and managerial expertise in supply chain and logistics. He has been one of the key contributors in the expansion of the former Agility company, PWC Logistics from a regional player into a global logistics service provider. Prior to his assignment at PWC Logistics, Charbel was a Senior Vice President at EXE Technologies, a global leader in Supply Chain Execution software.  He spent over six years at EXE, where he last served at the corporate headquarters with the R&D team in Dallas.  Before relocating to Dallas, he was the Managing Director for Europe Middle East and Africa (EMEA) with full P&L responsibility for the regional operation.  Prior to joining EXE, he held various management positions at one of the ABB (Asea Brown Boveri) business units in the US.  At ABB he also managed large engineering and consulting projects serving the power industry in North America and the UK for more than ten years. Charbel holds a Masters of Science degree from the University of Michigan and a Bachelor of Engineering from the American University of Beirut and is also a registered Professional Engineer in the State of Connecticut. Charbel is married with 2 children and enjoys skiing and music.

Dr. Ghada Hamouda

Dr. Hamouda holds a B.Sc. in Civil Engineering from Cairo University, Egypt; a M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Transportation Engineering from Waterloo University, Canada
Dr. Ghada Hamouda is a transport expert and PPP project leader at Egyptian Ministry of Transport. Coming from the academic field, Dr. Hamouda joined Egyptian Ministry of Transport in 2005. She was in charge of International Cooperation focusing on EU relations and reform of transport sector. She was also the Deputy National Coordinator for the EuroMed cooperation. Her work resulted in the implementation of 3 institutional twinning projects with the EU to reform maritime safety (Sweden), railway safety (France) and road safety (YTD); an € 80 million budgetary support program to reform the transport sector; the adoption of a regional transport policy for the EuroMed region (the Blue Paper); and the formulation of a Regional Transport Action Plan. Dr. Hamouda also represented Egypt in several high-level negotiations, e.g. Egypt-EU bilateral Action Plan and the non-official negotiations on Egypt-USA Free Trade Agreement. The Egyptian National Railways transportation plan commenced in 2007 and Dr. Hamouda was appointed as project manager for the 'Public Service Obligation' project to formalize provision of railway subsidized services. Late 2007, Dr. Hamouda was appointed as a project manager for the first PPP rail project in Egypt.

Dr. Hussain Al Sayegh

Hussain Al Sayegh has spent the last 24 years of his career building and developing major projects locally and internationally in both governmental and private sectors. His primary focus has been targeted towards the development of special projects and program management. Since starting his career as a Civil Engineer in 1983 within the Ministry of Public Works Hussain was responsible for Special Projects Administration.  Being responsible for a portfolio of major projects valued at KD 500 million allowed Hussain to achieve the post as Chief Engineer prior to leaving the Ministry. Upon entering the private sector in 1997, through his focus he accomplished major projects by the means of investment, acquisition and Build Operate Transfer (BOT). As Chairman and Managing Director of Aknan, Hussain has successfully delivered a wide-ranging mix of developments and continues to expand in terms of selective acquisition and projects within a wide range of industries. His company has grown from strength to strength resulting in the pioneering of many leading projects and business concepts. Consistently adopting an aggressive strategy has established the company as a market leader within Kuwait and expanding into the Middle East and Western Markets. With his wealth of experience and proven professional history, Hussain holds executive and non executive positions within several international organizations such as Real Estate Investment, Transportation, health and wellness and Project Management Company.

Dr. E. Sreedharan

Delhi Metro Rail Corporation

Dr. E. Sreedharan (Date of birth 12.6.1932) is a Civil Engineer belonging to the elite Indian Railway Service of Engineers.  After a distinguished career spanning of 36 years on the Indian Railways, he retired in 1990 as Member Engineering, Railway Board and ex-officio Secretary to the Government of India. After retirement from Railways Dr. Sreedharan was in charge of the 760 kms. long Konkan Railway along the West Coast of India, which he completed in a period of 7 years. Dr. Sreedharan was thereafter chosen by the Government to plan and execute the Delhi Metro Project which he is heading as its Managing Director from November, 1997 onwards. The first phase of Delhi Metro covering 65 kms. was completed in a record time of 7 years and 3 months. The second phase of Delhi Metro covering 122 kms. is scheduled for completion by September, 2010. Dr. Sreedharan is a recipient of many prestigious awards from the Government and professional bodies in India including the National Award of “Padma Shri” in 2001.  He was adjudged as the “Man of the Year” by the Times of India for the year 2002.  The TIME MAGAZINE chose him as one of the ASIAN HEROES in 2003.  He was awarded “Chevalier de la Legion d’Honneur” (Knight of the Legion of Honour) by the President of French Republic on 12th July, 2005.

Dr. Mohammad Montazeri

Dr. Mohammad Montazeri is currently the Executive Manager of Tehran Metro Line 6. After receiving his Ph.D. from K.U.Leuven and his Post-Doc. Degree from R.U.Gent in Belgium in Industrial Management, he joined Tehran Urban and Suburban Railway Co. (TUSRC) in 1993. For the last 14 years, he held different positions in TUSRC including Board Member and Secretary to the Board of the Directors, Deputy Managing Director for Planning and Budgeting, Deputy Managing Director for Operation and Deputy Managing Director for Human Resources. As a University lecturer, Dr. Montazeri's specialty is providing financial solutions to Metro Lines using Public Private Partnership (PPP). He has also presented numerous papers in national and international conferences in this context. Dr. Montazeri has been an active member and moderator in different Value Engineering projects including Mashad Metro Line 2 and Tehran Metro Line 7.

Jack van der Merwe, fifty nine years old, is a professional Engineer.  He was born in Pretoria, South Africa and matriculated at the Heidelberg Volkskool and obtained the degrees B.Sc  (Eng.) Civil and B.Sc (Eng.) (Hons.) Civil from the University of Pretoria. He is also a graduate of the Harvard Business School’s SED programme. In 2003 he was elected UITP vise-president for Africa (a World-wide association of urban & regional passenger transport operators, authorities & suppliers) and during 2004 he was elected to serve as a member on the UITP Policy Board. In 1998 the Transportation Engineering Division of the South African Institution of Civil Engineering awarded him the Chairman's Award for Meritorious Service to the Transportation Profession. He is a Fellow of the South African Academy of Engineers. He is married to Lizette and they have two sons, Jacques aged twenty-eight and Neil aged eleven and a daughter, Melandri aged thirteen.

Born in 1960, Married, with one daughter, Civil Engineer, graduated in 1983 from Ukraine (former Soviet Union). Started working with Aqaba Railway Corporation in 1984 as Railway Track Engineer then chief of railway track maintenance. 1988 joined the Ministry of Transport as Railway Transport Engineer, then Director of Railway transport Department on 1998. and since 2003 until now Director of Multi-Transport Department. During 2003, worked as Acting Director General for the Aqaba Railway Corporation. Attend many training programs in Railways and in Privatization and BOT projects.

Paul has over thirty years of work experience in the public and private rail sectors. He has worked in Australia, Singapore, Hong Kong, China, Taiwan, Japan, Thailand and Dubai during the course of his career. He is currently Managing Director of Serco Dubai Metro responsible for the implementation of the Operations and Maintenance service of the Dubai Metro Red and Green Lines. Before joining Serco, Paul was Senior Vice President of Vision Skill Consulting where he led a team of specialist railway consultants delivering operations, maintenance, training, marketing and strategic management advice to new railways including Shanghai Maglev and Taiwan High Speed Railway. Paul is also well known for his role as the Chief Operating Officer for the Bangkok Mass Transit System Public Company where he delivered the business turnaround strategy and led the local team to implement the strategy by increasing ridership and at the some time reducing costs. Prior to his position in Bangkok, Paul was General Manager Railway Systems, WestRail of Kowloon Canton Railway Corporation with an overall responsibility for planning, design, construction and project management of the railway systems, track and infrastructure for each of the three new lines under development at that time. The total budget was almost US$2 Billion.
Paul has an MBA from La Trobe University Australia and specialist Signal Engineering qualifications from the Railway Institute NSW.
