A festival of content and networking
Hedge Funds World Middle East is THE premier annual meeting place for regional investors and the best international fund managers. It is where the Middle Eastern hedge fund community comes to meet, network and do business.
A refreshing format
This year, we present our attendees with a new and unique offering...Hedge Funds World Middle East will herald a new concept in hedge fund conferences. The purpose is unchanged – to meet the serious needs of serious investors – but the look and feel of the event will be refreshing and different. We’ve moved to the larger Madinat ‘arena’ to accommodate the ever increasing numbers and to enable us to provide you with the space you have asked us for. You’ll find more places to sit and have informal meetings and more room in the exhibition area to walk around and meet your fellow attendees. We hope you like it!

Cutting edge discussion from...
Top strategists & global macro traders
This year, Terrapinn is proud to present some of the world’s top economists, strategists, global macro traders and hedge fund managers, in a festival of content that will help investors plan their strategy for the year ahead. Top of the bill is our Guest Strategist Barton Biggs, drawing on decades of experience and extensive recent research, to guide us on “future investment opportunities in a violent and volatile world.” We are also delighted to welcome Peter Clarke, Man Group plc. As CEO of the world’s largest hedge fund provider and with a long experience in the industry he is especially suited to give a global perspective on the developments in the industry. Another highlight will be Dr Sushil Wadhwani CBE, who worked at Tudor and Goldman Sachs, and was a member of the Bank of England’s Monetary Policy Committee, before founding Wadhwani Asset Management. Other top strategists, discussing where the “smart money” should go in 2008, include Richard Davidson of Lansdowne Partners, Ann Thivierge of Morgan Stanley and Steven Bell, who runs the global macro programme at London-based GLC.
Top economists
Our Guest Economist is the mercurial Nouriel Roubini, Professor of Economics at New York University’s Stern School of Business, former U.S. Treasury and White House adviser, and Chairman
of top economic information service RGE Monitor. Also on the agenda is the widely-admired Jim Walker, Chief Economist at CLSA Asia-Pacific, rated by many fund managers as the top economic commentator in Asia. We examine the growing influence of sovereign wealth funds – a growing issue for global stock markets – and we are delighted to welcome Mr Ikho Suh, Head of Investment Strategy at Korea Investment Corporation, to discuss this topic alongside John Nugee (Head of Central Bank relations at SSgA) and Stephen Jen, who as Chief Currency Economist at Morgan Stanley has invested much time into understanding how these agencies manage their FX reserves.
Leading investors Heading the line-up of investors at Hedge Funds World Middle East is Sindo Oliveros, of the World Bank Pension Fund, with over $2.5 billion allocated to hedge funds. Sindo will examine the issues and solutions for investors who are building their own portfolio of hedge funds. Discussion panels throughout the event are peppered with end-investors, such as Peter Caroe of PFA Pension (Denmark) and Roland Staub of Trustee Suisse, while local investors Gulf Investment Corporation and Abu Dhabi Investment Corporation both feature in our FoHF panel. For investors in emerging markets, we have the latest research on BRICS, Asia, Eastern Europe, and of course the GCC countries.
