Award categories and criteria

(aim to recognise the best risk-adjusted performance among South African or African hedge funds and funds of hedge funds)

 
1. Best fund of funds:
(best performing fund of hedge funds within your offering)

• The highest sharpe ratio over the period of 1 year (Sep 2007 – Aug 2008)
• Minimum fund size >R200mil for the entire period
• Innovation in fund manager selection process

2. Best overall hedge fund:

• Fund size > R50mil for the period of 1 year (Sep 2007 – Aug 2008)
• The greatest absolute return across all types – no risk adjustment

3. Best “Long short” fund

• Fund size > R50mil for 100% of the period
• The highest sharpe ratio over the period of 1 year (Sep 2007 – Aug 2008) 

4. Best “Market neutral” fund

• Fund size > R50mil for 100% of the period
• The highest sharpe ratio over the period of 1 year (Sep 2007 – Aug 2008) 

5. Best “Fixed income” fund

• Fund size >  R100mil for 100% of the year
• The highest sharpe ratio over the period of 1 year (Sep 2007 – Aug 2008) 

6. Best “Macro and trading” fund

• Fund size > R50m for 100% of the period
• The highest sharpe ratio over the period of 1 year (Sep 2007 – Aug 2008)

7. Best new fund / emerging fund

• Fund size > R50m at time of judging
• A fund in existence for no more than 12 months
• The highest sharpe ratio over the period of 1 year (Sep 2007 – Aug 2008) 

Notes:

• Entrants/funds must submit performance data/results to Terrapinn.
• Segregated funds will be excluded. (except for best new fund category)
• Sharpe ratio is calculated on monthly data.
