Dr. Dan Bergman joined AP3 in 2005 where he heads the Risk allocation team, working on investment strategy, ALM and allocation of alpha and beta risk. The recent focus of the team has been the development of a portfolio absolute return strategies including global tactical asset allocation. Prior to joining AP3 Dan worked as a senior strategist for AFA Insurance, primarily with asset allocation and ALM. Dan holds a Ph.D. from Stockholm University and a CFA-charter. He has published a number of articles in leading international journals and is a member of the Swedish Association of Financial Analysts.

Antonio Borges became Chairman of the Hedge Fund Standards Board in July 2008.
A graduate in Economics from the Technical University of Lisbon and MA and PhD in Economics from Stanford University, he spent most of his academic career at INSEAD, the business school in Fontainebleau, France. He joined INSEAD’s faculty in 1980, and became Associate Dean in charge of the MBA Programme in 1986.
Between 1990 and 1993 he was Deputy Governor of the Bank of Portugal. In that capacity he cooperated extensively with the Committee of European Central Bank Governors, and chaired the Subcommittee on Monetary Policy.
In 1993 he returned to INSEAD, as Dean, and led the School until 2000. During this period, INSEAD launched its second campus, in Singapore, and expanded rapidly in Asia.
In 2000, he joined Goldman Sachs International as Vice Chairman and Managing Director, initially with responsibilities in leadership development and strategy, evolving later on to investment banking. For a period of time he was senior advisor for the Iberian Peninsula. He left in 2008, joining the Hedge Fund Standards Board shortly afterwards.
He is a director of several European and American companies, of the Champalimaud Foundation, in Lisbon, and is Chairman of the International Council of Bocconi University, in Milan.
He helped to found, and is Chairman of, the European Corporate Governance Institute.

Larry Brainard has more than thirty five years’ experience as an international economist and investment strategist working for major global financial institutions.
Mr. Brainard was Global Head of Emerging Market Research at Chase Manhattan Bank and before that Co-Head of Emerging Debt Markets at Goldman Sachs. During his career he has covered emerging markets on a global basis, with special focus on China, Russia and Brazil. During the 1980s he was the head of economic committees responsible for advising creditor banks on restructuring the sovereign debt of Mexico, Brazil, Poland, Yugoslavia and Nigeria. He received a PhD in economics from the University of Chicago in 1971.

He has been a member of the UK Treasury’s Independent Forecasting Panel (1992-1997), and an Economic Adviser to the House of Commons Select Committee on the Treasury and a Visiting Professor at the London School of Economics. He was appointed Chairman of the BBC in October 2001 and resigned his position in January 2004.

Dr Marc Faber was born in Zurich, Switzerland. He went to school in Geneva and Zurich and finished high school with the Matura. He studied Economics at the University of Zurich and, at the age of 24, obtained a PhD in Economics magna cum laude. Between 1970 and 1978, Dr Faber worked for White Weld & Company Limited in New York, Zurich and Hong Kong. Since 1973, he has lived in Hong Kong. From 1978 to February 1990, he was the Managing Director of Drexel Burnham Lambert (HK) Ltd. In June 1990, he set up his own business, MARC FABER LIMITED which acts as an investment advisor, fund manager and broker/dealer. Dr Faber publishes a widely read monthly investment newsletter “THE GLOOM BOOM & DOOM” report which highlights unusual investment opportunities, and is the author of several books including “TOMORROW’S GOLD – Asia’s Age of Discovery” which was first published in 2002 and highlights future investment opportunities around the world. “TOMORROW’S GOLD” was for several weeks on Amazon’s best seller list and is being translated into Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Thai and German. Dr. Faber is also a regular contributor to several leading financial publications around the world. A book on Dr Faber, “RIDING THE MILLENNIAL STORM”, by Nury Vittachi, was published in 1998. A regular speaker at various investment seminars, Dr Faber is well known for his “contrarian” investment approach. He is also associated with a variety of funds and is a member of the Board of Directors of numerous companies.

Sir John Gieve was appointed Deputy Governor in January 2006. In addition to his membership of the Monetary Policy Committee, he has specific responsibility for the Bank's Financial Stability work and is a member of the Board of the FSA. Before joining the Bank, he was the Permanent Secretary of the Home Office from 2001 to the end of 2005. One key challenge in that time was to build up defences against terrorism in response first to 9/11 and then the attacks in London in July 2005. The Home Office's other responsibilities included developing a cross departmental programme to reduce crime and anti social behaviour, government oversight of policing, coordinating the Criminal Justice System, combating the misuse of drugs, protecting the public and reducing reoffending through the prison and probation services, race equality, the voluntary and community sector, passports and the identity card scheme, and immigration and asylum. Before the Home Office he spent twenty years at the Treasury, where he worked on banking and City regulation, energy, public services and the Budget and was Private Secretary to three Chancellors - Lawson, Major and Lamont Chief Secretary. Between 1984 and 1986 he was seconded to 3i as an investment controller in their London office. John is married with two sons in their early twenties and has lived for 25 years in North London. He is a Governor of an Islington Primary School, trustee of a local sports charity and a keen Arsenal supporter.

Pranay joined the Pearl Group as Deputy Chief Investment Officer and a Member of the Board in June 2006. Pranay is responsible for the overall framework for strategy and asset allocation and investment risk analytics for the £28bn portfolio. David Harding is one of the pioneers of trend following systematic trading in Europe. Winton Capital Management Limited (“Winton”) is currently the second largest CTA in the world with assets under management of over $15 billion.
Mr. Harding began his career in the financial industry in 1982 after graduating from Cambridge University with a First Class Honours degree in Natural Sciences specialising in Theoretical Physics.
In 1987, Mr. Harding co-founded Adam, Harding and Lueck Ltd (“AHL") a computer-driven, research-based CTA. Within a few years AHL had grown into one of the world’s largest CTAs and in 1994 was acquired by the Man Group where it has remained the company’s flagship fund. Alexander Ineichen is Managing Director and Senior Investment Officer for Alternative Investment Solutions, a business within the Alternative and Quantitative Investments platform, itself a part of UBS Global Asset Management. Alexander’s main responsibilities include asset allocation, risk management and other research initiatives. Alexander started his financial career in origination of risk management products at Swiss Bank Corporation in 1988. From 1991 to 2005, Alexander had various research functions within UBS Investment Bank related to equity derivatives, indices, capital flows and alternative investments. Alexander is the author of the two UBS research publications “In Search of Alpha—Investing in Hedge Funds” (October 2000) and “The Search for Alpha Continues—Do Fund of Hedge Funds Add Value?” (September 2001). As of 2006 these two documents were the most often printed research papers in the documented history of UBS. He is also author of “Absolute Returns—The Risk and Opportunities of Hedge Fund Investing” (Wiley Finance, October 2002) and “Asymmetric Returns—The Future of Active Asset Management” (Wiley Finance, November 2006). Alexander has published research on equity derivatives and hedge funds in various peer-refereed financial journals, has contributed several chapters to financial books and has written numerous articles for the financial press. Alexander holds a Federal Diploma of Economics and Business Administration (SEBA) from the Universities of Applied Sciences SIB in Zurich, Switzerland. Nigel Jenkinson became Executive Director, Financial Stability on 1 October 2003. The Financial Stability Area’s work addresses the Bank’s responsibilities for maintaining the stability of the financial system as a whole. In this role Nigel has responsibility for developing Bank policy on financial stability issues and the management of the Financial Stability Area. Nigel is a member of the Financial Stability Board which gives high level guidance on priority-setting.
Before taking up his current role, Nigel was the Deputy Director, Monetary Analysis and Statistics from January 1999-September 2003. Previous roles include: Head of Structural Economic Analysis Division in Monetary Analysis; Senior
Manager, Reserves Management in the Foreign Exchange Division; and a three year secondment in Basel working for the forerunner of the European Monetary Institution (itself the forerunner of the European Central Bank).
Nigel graduated from the University of Birmingham in 1976 with a BSocSc in Mathematics, Economics and Statistics. He went on to take an MSc in Econometrics and Mathematical Economics at the London School of Economics before joining the Bank in September 1977.
Nigel was born on 18 June 1955 and is married with two grown-up sons. His interests include reading and the theatre and watching football and cricket.

Farouki Majeed is the Senior Investment Officer, Asset Allocation / Risk Management, of the California Public Employees’ Retirement System (CalPERS). Mr. Majeed comes to CalPERS from the Abu Dhabi Retirement Pensions and Benefits Fund of the United Arab Emirates, where he served as the inaugural Chief Investment Officer since 2004. Mr. Majeed recommended asset allocation policy for the Abu Dhabi Fund and established a global investment program. Previously, he was Deputy Director, Investments, for the Ohio Public Employees Retirement System from 2002 to 2004. Mr. Majeed was Chief Investment Officer for the Orange County Employees Retirement System from 1997 to 2002 and Investment Officer for the Minneapolis Employees Retirement Fund from 1991 - 1997. Mr. Majeed began his investment career in 1980 with the National Development Bank of Sri Lanka, his homeland, and served in various investment and finance education positions in the United States. Mr. Majeed holds a Master’s Degree in Business Administration-Finance from Rutgers University, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from the University of Sri Lanka. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst. Mr. Majeed also serves on a voluntary basis as a member of the Investment Advisory Committee of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) Provident Fund based in Amman, Jordan.

Jim received his Ph.D. in 1982 from the University of Surrey after graduating in Economics from Sheffield University in 1978. After a brief spell with Bank of America and International Treasury Management, a division of Marine Midland Bank, in 1988 Jim joined Swiss Bank Corporation(SBC). In 1991, he became Head of Research, globally for SBC. Jim joined Goldman Sachs in October 1995 as a Partner, Co-Head of Global Economics and Chief Currency Economist. Jim is the creator of the acronym BRICs and together with his colleagues he has published much research about BRICs which has become synonymous with the emergence of Brazil, Russia India and China as the growth opportunities of the future. Jim is a member of the board of the Royal Economic Society in the UK, of the European think tank Bruegel, and Itinera, a Belgium think tank. He is a member of the UK-India Round Table. Jim is one of the founding trustees as well as currently Chairman of the London based charity SHINE. Jim is also Chairman of Goldman Sachs European Charity Committee and a Trustee of PiggyBankKids. He also served as a non-executive director of Manchester United before it returned to private ownership in 2005.

After his university study Wouter started his career with the Walgemoed Group. In 1993 he moved to insurance company Hooge Huys Verzekeringen N.V., where he worked for the Investments & Treasury department. In this function he was responsible, among other things, for the management of the fixed income portfolios. In 1996 Wouter continued his career at pension fund Stichting Pensioenfonds HBG, where he started out as an asset manager. He later became deputy director, in which position he was responsible for asset management and pension affairs. In 2003 he was appointed Deputy Head of Asset Management, and 1 June 2005 he became Director Asset Management. Since July 2007 Wouter has been appointed Chief Investment Officer. Hector Sants is the Chief Executive of the Financial Services Authority. Prior to his appointment as CEO in July 2007, he was a Managing Director of the FSA responsible for Wholesale and Institutional Markets. Paul Spijkers joined ABP pension fund in The Netherlands in 1984, where he started working as a corporate lawyer. In 1986 he joined the investment division of ABP where he became Chief Legal Counsel. In 1990 he left the legal profession to become head of the fixed income portfolio management team, followed by an appointment to the board of directors of ABP’s Investment Division as Managing Director for Fixed Income in 1994.
In August of 1998 he relocated to the United States to head up and build out ABP’s investment operation in New York, as President and CEO of ABP Investments US, Inc. Next to that he remained responsible for ABP´s Global Fixed Income Investments.
Starting of January 2005 he is also in charge of Alternative Investments, which includes Global Real Estate, Private Equity, Hedge Funds, Structured Finance, Commodities, Infrastructure investments as well as the Treasury Management division. As of the beginning of March 2008, Paul Spijkers has the same responsibilities at APG (All Pensions Goup) Investments. He holds office in both New York and Amsterdam.
Paul Spijkers holds a Masters degree in Law from the University of Amsterdam and has had additional training in portfolio- and risk management at ICMB in Geneva and Macro Economics at the University of Maastricht.

Mr. Thouret also established and led Celestica’s treasury function, including its initial public offering in 1998, innovative financing for growth,

Michael Treichl is the co-founder and Managing Partner of Audley Capital, a $1bn “event –driving” fund launched in 2005. Audley Capital has been the ranked the leading Event Driven Hedge Fund in 2006 and 2007 on a combined basis according to Eurohedge. Michael has almost 30 years of transaction experience in investment banking, private equity and hedge fund investing. Much of his investment banking career was focused on mergers and acquisitions, especially transactions involving listed companies and includes several "going private" LBOs in the US. He was instrumental in the acquisition and subsequent restructuring of Head-Tyrolia-Mares, the financially distressed Austrian sporting goods group, which was floated as Head NV in September 2000 on the NYSE, generating almost $400 million in equity value. In 1998, he co-founded Bessemer Vogel & Treichl, based in Düsseldorf, to carry out the European buy-out activities of Bessemer Holdings L.P. (now Lindsay Goldberg L.P., a $5 billion NY-based private equity firm). Bessemer Vogel & Treichl and its associated entities were responsible for private equity investments of about $475 million which returned almost $3 billion by year-end 2007.
Michael Treichl currently serves as a non-executive director of Meinl International Power (a €600 million listed fund), TASNCH Holding S.r.l. (an investment holding company) and AWF Holding (a private forest and land management firm).
Michael Treichl holds an MBA from Harvard Business School and a JD from the University of Vienna, Austria.

Roger graduated from Oxford University (Merton College) in 1977 with two degrees: an MA in Mathematics and an MSc in Applied Statistics. Dr Sushil Wadhwani is currently CEO of Wadhwani Asset Management LLP, a London-based fund management company. Sushil was a full-time external member of the Monetary Policy Committee at the Bank of England between June 1999 and May 2002. The MPC is responsible for setting UK interest rates to meet the governments 2.5% inflation target. From 1995-1999 Dr Wadhwani was Head of the Quantitative Systems Group, a member of the Management Committee and Partner at Tudor Proprietary Trading LLC, a fund management company.
