Last year's audience at the
Savoy Place, 2007

European Conference

Looking Back at 2007

Last year’s 1st European Conference on Happiness & Its Causes attracted hundreds of delegates from all walks of life and professional groups ranging from health care to teaching to neuroscience.

Originally conceived as a forum for fostering debate and discussion about the many different approaches to happiness, Lord Richard Layard and a faculty of expert speakers from Europe and the USA, including Goldie Hawn and Dorothy Rowe and many others, discussed the key issues:
  • Can we diminish our negative emotions and be less affected by the events going on around us?
  • Is it possible to train ourselves to be happy?
  • What insights does the new ‘science of happiness’ have for education, healthcare and the workplace?
The conference is produced by the international non-profit organisation, the World Happiness Forum which aims to promote dialogue on the tools and techniques that can be drawn from science, psychology, philosophy, economics and religion for the enhancement of human happiness.

It is motivated by a belief in the potential of the mind for growth and change and the need to look inward, as well as outward, for solutions to problems of dissatisfaction and suffering in daily life.
