Dr. Ranjan Bhaduri is Managing Director and Head of Research at AlphaMetrix. Prior to this he was a Vice President in the Graystone Research group at Morgan Stanley. Earlier, he was on the investment committee in a Canadian Fund of Funds, and at a multi-billion dollar capital management firm where he was involved in all aspects of its fund of hedge funds and structured finance business. He has also worked with two major Canadian investment banks in the Financial Strategy Consulting Group and in Global Risk Management & Control, respectively. Dr. Bhaduri has also held advisory roles at the East-West Center, a leading think tank on the Asia-Pacific region, and at ClassMouse, an early stage software company. He has taught finance and mathematics at several universities and lectured on Derivatives for the Montreal Exchange. Dr. Bhaduri has authored articles on, and been invited to speak worldwide regarding portfolio management, advanced risk management techniques, and hedge fund issues. He holds both the CFA and CAIA charters. He is a member of the American Mathematical Society, the Mathematical Association of America, the Toronto CFA Society, and the Global Association of Risk Professionals (GARP). Gautam Bhandari heads investments by Morgan Stanley Infrastructure Partners, a $4Bn global Infrastructure Fund, in India, Middle East and Southern Africa. He and his team are based in Mumbai. Most recently, Mr. Bhandari was based in New York with the Firm’s Investment Banking Division where he advised clients globally on M&A and financings in the Engineering & Construction, Industrial Services and Alternative Energy sectors. Prior to this, Mr. Bhandari was a senior member of the Firm’s Global Capital Markets group, focusing on structured financings, hedges and securitizations. Prior to joining Morgan Stanley in 2001, Mr. Bhandari worked for a semiconductor technology start-up Advanced Technology Materials, Inc. (ATMI)as Director of Business Development. He was responsible for pursuing growth opportunities in new markets, identifying targets and executing acquisitions. Mr. Bhandari holds a MBA degree in Finance from the Stern School of Business at New York University. He also earned a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Delaware. He is a published author of several scientific papers and is the named inventor on twenty patents in the semiconductor industry.

Mr. Hetal Gandhi (Mumbai, India) has spent his entire 22-year career in India. Hetal founded Tano Capital in India in 2006 along with Mr Carlton Pereira Prior to joining Tano Capital, Mr. Gandhi was the CEO for the financial services business of Infrastructure Leasing and Financial Services Limited (“IL&FS”), a well-known financial institution in India that focuses on infrastructure financing and financial services. Mr. Gandhi spent 17 years with IL&FS during which he was the Managing Director of IL&FS Investment Managers Limited (“IIML”) for six (6) years. IIML is the private equity arm of IL&FS Group, which was acquired from Lazard Credit Capital in September 1996. Mr. Gandhi recruited and managed the private equity team for IL&FS until 2002, and led number of restructurings, investments and exits. Over the years, he has built and maintained an extensive network of relationships with companies, private equity investors and investment bankers. Prior to this, Mr. Gandhi was engaged in management consulting for three (3) years with AF Ferguson & Co. Mr. Gandhi is a certified member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India and was one of the founding members of TiE Network in Bangalore. Subir Gokarn is currently Chief Economist, Standard & Poor’s Asia-Pacific. He is responsible for shaping Standard & Poor’s macro-economic views in Asia Pacific and expanding its research and commentary on the region’s rapidly growing economies. He assumed this position in August 2007, after being Chief Economist of CRISIL, a Standard & Poor’s company, for over five years. Prior to joining CRISIL in 2002, he was Chief Economist and IFCI Chair in Industrial Development at the National Council of Applied Economic Research (NCAER), New Delhi (2000-02) and Associate Professor at the Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research (IGIDR), Mumbai (1991-2000). He was educated at St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai, Delhi School of Economics, New Delhi and Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, Ohio, USA, from where he received a Ph.D. in Economics. His doctoral dissertation was on the impact of capital market liberalization on industrial performance in South Korea. During 1997-98, he was a Fulbright Fellow at the Economic Growth Centre, Yale University. He has been writing a fortnightly column on current economic issues for the Business Standard, a daily business newspaper, for over eleven years. Mr. Janak R. Jethmalani has been an American citizen since 1987. The Fund uses Reitler, Brown & Rosenblatt llc, NY as lead council, International Management Mauritius as administrator, ICICI bank as the Indian cash and securities custodian, HSBC as banker and Ernst & Young as auditor. There are approximately 10 empanelled brokerage houses that the fund trades with. The fund appears in various databases, including Eurekahedge and Cogenthedge. Mr. Jethmalani is the sole portfolio manager of the fund, but has contractual arrangements with a variety of SEBI registered entities that provide investment advisory services (macro economic, fundamental equity and research). He has extensive professional experience in the international arena. He was a leader of the team which set up the Ceybank Unit Trust in Sri Lanka in early nineties. He was a Common Wealth Consultant and did research in Capital Markets in Tanzania and made a project report for setting up a Unit Trust in Tanzania. Starting his career as Research Officer - Economic Department, Reserve Bank of India, he grew up to the rank of Director and Advisor - Economic Department. Since 1975 he was with erstwhile Unit Trust of India, the then only Mutual Fund in the country and held several Senior positions such as Director – Investment, Director – Planning and Development and from 1987 till 1993, he was the Executive Trustee equivalent to Managing Director. He was actively involved in the Design and Marketing of several Mutual Fund schemes. For his original contribution in the field of marketing of financial instruments, the Institute of Marketing Management (IMM) has awarded him Marketing Man of the year 1987 Award instituted by Tata Steel. As an efficient manager, having contributed substantially to the growth of the Unit Trust of India, the IMM has awarded him in 1993 the Best Professional Manager Award instituted by Life Insurance Corporation of India. He works closely with the Regulator – Securities And Exchange Board of India (SEBI) to put in place highest professional standards and in promoting the Mutual Fund industry on healthy lines. He took his Masters Degree in Economics and Statistics holding University Rank. He was the first student from Kerala University to be the National Scholar and he did Research in Economics in the University of Kerala.

Mr. Mathur was Chairman of the Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC), the largest life insurance company in India from August 2002 to October 2004. His tenure coincided the opening of the Insurance sector, which resulted into the entry of 12 domestic players with strong brands tying up with leading international insurance companies. Despite intense competition from the new entrants, LIC continued to be the dominant player in the life insurance sector. This period was also marked by sharp decline in the interest rates, which necessitated withdrawal of some of the popular high yield products and introduction of new schemes. The equity portfolio was leveraged through secondary market operations and swapping of debt to realize profits and better asset liability matching. Post retirement from LIC, The Government of India appointed Mr. Sunil Behari Mathur as Administrator of the Specified Undertaking of the Unit Trust of India (SUUTI), the successor of the erstwhile Unit Trust of India in December 2004, wherein Government had provided financial support to meet the liabilities under some of the guaranteed high returns schemes. During the last couple of years, taking advantage of the bullish economy and the buoyant capital markets, SUUTI divested its large holdings in equity without leading to volatility in the markets. The fund was managing over Rs. 42000 crore (around US $ 11 bn) of assets under management as on 19th December 2007 (having doubled in last three years). Mr. Mathur is at present the Secretary General of Life Insurance Council. He is the Chairman of National Stock Exchange and an Advisor to National Investment Fund set up by Government of India. He is also on Board on some leading Corporates.
