Drilling Fluids Adviser,
Oil Search Limited
Tony McCoy graduated from La Sorbonne in 1969 as a Geologist. Having worked as a well site Geologist and Petroleum Engineer, he made the transition to mud engineering in 1975 and now, some 40 years and 40 countries later, finds himself working as Oil Search's Fluids Adviser with responsibility for Drilling Fluids, Cementing, Waste Management and Environmental Protection, primarily in Papua New Guinea.
Having spent the majority of his 30 years as an independent consultant working for Shell in Africa, Europe, South America, SE Asia and New Zealand, the reduction of the environmental impact of drilling operations has assumed more and more significance in the projects Tony has undertaken. While finding technical solutions to the problems of drilling wells remains a principal element of his responsibilities, ensuring that proper environmental mitigation measures are put in place is now seen as every bit as important.
Tony's professional motto remains 'Technical solutions must have proper environmental mitigation or they become another problem'

Drilling Manager,
OMV (Pakistan) Exploration
Started working in the 'Oilfield' in 1989 during my fourth year of University. Temporarily left University and increasingly got more involved as worker (Roughneck, Derrickman, Assistant Driller, Driller) in the industry (Mainly OMV). Joined Tuboscope Vetco in 1996 and kept on studying casually after having completed the training/education for non destructive testing of materials in 1997. Worked as Inspector for Tuboscope as well as contracted assistant driller and derrickman for OMV Austria and was asked to join RAG (Rohoel Aufsuchungs Gesellschaft) in 1999. Completed the 'Deutsche Bohrmeisterschule' in Celle with excellence in 2000 and continued working as drilling supervisor and drilling engineer for RAG until 2005. Finally wrote my thesis in 2004 and finished University. Was asked to join OMV Iran and work as well site engineer and drilling supervisor in the Ahvaz Oilfield (South Iran). Joined OMV Pakistan as drilling superintendent in March 2006 and became drilling manager in November of the same year. Last year my assignment as drilling manager was extended until July 2009.
