Brad has been Chief Executive Officer of Ports Corporation of Queensland Limited (PCQ) for the past 7 years.

PCQ is a Company Government Owned Corporation and Port Authority responsible for 10 Queensland ports.  These ports are primarily major bulk export facilities, which together are responsible for over 120 million tonnes of exports annually with a value in excess of $15 billion.  PCQ is a major player in the development of port infrastructure which supports Queensland’s booming resource sector.  As CEO, Brad is responsible for ensuring the timely and efficient delivery of these large infrastructure projects as well as their ongoing operation.

Brad has been with PCQ since its inception in 1993.  Prior to this he held a number of roles in the marine and port areas.

Brad has a Bachelor of Business and Certificate in Civil Engineering. His interests include sailing, golf and skiing.

Tony Galligan is Managing Director of Whitehaven Coal Infrastructure Pty Ltd, one of the Whitehaven Coal group of companies.

Mr Galligan has more than 35 years experience in the coal industry and prior to joining Whitehaven in 2006 he worked in senior positions in the NSW Government including Director Minerals Development, Director Coal and Chief Coal Geologist.

Mr Galligan also worked for many years in the coal industry and government in Queensland.

Mr Galligan is Chairman of the Newcastle Coal Infrastructure Group (NCIG), a consortium of coal mining companies currently building a third coal loader in Newcastle.
 

 
Arun Kumar Jagatramka

Mr. Arun Kumar Jagatramka is a qualified Chartered Accountant with an all India 1st rank and gold medal. He has an industrial experience of more than 11 years in the production of coal and coke, besides a prior experience of more than 15 years in management consultancy and merchant banking.

Mr. Arun Kumar Jagatramka is the Vice-Chairman and Managing Director of Gujarat NRE Coke Limited. Under his able guidance, Gujarat NRE Coke, established in 1994, has become the largest independent producer of Met Coke in India – the only Indian entity to have moved backward into coal mine ownership in Australia and forward into steel making, coupled with wind energy and waste heat power generation. The Annual Compounded Growth of the company since inception is to the tune of 42% approx. with present market capitalisation of USD 1.4 Billion.

A visionary of rare distinction, he has spearheaded the move by establishing Gujarat NRE Minerals Ltd. in 2004, a company involved in mining operations in Australia. Gujarat NRE Minerals Ltd owns and operates NRE No. 1 colliery and NRE Wongawilli Colliery in Wollongong currently.  In a space of just 3 years, the Company under his chairmanship has acquired world class Hard coking coal resources in excess of 500 million tonnes.

Gujarat NRE Minerals Ltd. is a socially conscious, eco-friendly, multi national resource conglomerate, with a spate of appetite in excellence in the chosen field of fossil fuel.

Mr. Arun Kumar Jagatramka is  a member of a number of boards, including Australian listed Pluton Resources Ltd., Rey Resources Ltd. and Pike River Coal Limited, New Zealand, where Gujarat NRE group holds cornerstone stakes. 

Widely regarded for his foresight and knowledge, he is an acknowledged expert in matter coal and coke and has presented papers in all corners of the world on the subject.

He is associated with the Confederation of Indian Industry (Western Region), an apex representative of Indian Industry, by way of heading sub-committees on “Integrity India”, “International Affairs” besides being a member of “Energy Panel”, and “Environment and Conservation” Sub-Committee. "

Robert Lord

Rob Lord was appointed Chief Executive Officer of Gloucester Coal in August 2007. Gloucester Coal is listed on the ASX, with corporate headquarters in Sydney and coal mining operations in the NSW Gloucester Basin. Since Mr Lord’s appointment, the market capitalisation of Gloucester Coal has increased by more than $200 million to its current market capitalisation in excess of $700 million.

Prior to his appointment at Gloucester Coal, Mr Lord worked in the pulp and paper industry for 19 years, most recently as Executive Vice President responsible for the Australasian operations of the world’s largest manufacturer of newsprint, Norwegian-based Norske Skog. With two paper mills in Australia and one in New Zealand, the operation had turnover of approximately A$900m, assets of A$1.5 billion and 1,400 employees.

Mr Lord has also worked in a variety of international marketing and sales roles including at Norske Skog Australasia, Fletcher Challenge Paper Australasia and Tasman Pulp and Paper in New Zealand. He has also worked in corporate planning in the computer services industry and was for four years a high school science teacher both in New Zealand and the United Kingdom.

With a BSc (Chemistry) from Waikato University, NZ, and an MBA (First Class Hons) from Canterbury University, NZ, Mr Lord has held a variety of Board positions including until recently Chairman of A3P (the Australian Plantation Products and Paper Industry Council). He was also a member of the International CEO Forum and the New Zealand Business Round Table.

President and CEO of TSX listed Waratah Coal Inc. has a degree in Mining Engineering from the University of New South Wales . Peter has worked in the Australian coal industry since 1989, from graduate mining engineer, to General Manager. He has built and operated both large underground and open cut operations principally in Australia’s Bowen Basin. Peter’s operational experiences include companies such as Shell Coal, White Mining, MIM Holdings and MacArthur Coal. A highlight was leading an enthusiastic young team which reinvented the MIM’s Oaky Creek Coal Complex, challenging the existing industry benchmarks, going on to become the most profitable part of MIM. In Waratah Coal he sees the opportunity to create a new coal company with similar ambitions.

Andrew Matheson

Andrew graduated as Geological Engineer from RMIT in 1987 and has approximately 20 years professional experience within the mining and engineering sectors. During this time he has gained broad experience in a range of disciplines from exploration, project development and construction, infrastructure management and underground and open cut mining operations.

He has worked on projects in Australia, Africa, Indonesia, New Caledonia and Europe. The majority of his time has been spent in the iron ore and coal industries with BHPBilliton.

Andrew joined Aquila in June 2006 is based in Brisbane and manages the company’s coal portfolio.

Jane Melanie

ABARE

Jane Melanie is General Manager, Energy and Minerals Branch at ABARE, with responsibility for domestic and international energy and minerals research,  and commodity forecasting

Jane has more than 10 years experience in research and policy analysis, with emphasis on the energy and minerals sectors, and has led research on a wide range of topics, including:
• the development of energy demand and supply forecasts in Asia, and the implications of these for fuel markets and international trade;
• the implications for energy markets of policies on trade liberalisation, energy market reform and global climate change;  and
• trade and investment in the minerals sector in the Asia Pacific region.

Before rejoining ABARE in August 2007, Jane spent a year as Senior Advisor (Energy) in the Australian Treasury where she was responsible for providing strategic direction for advancing Australia’s energy market reform agenda.

Jane is the author of more than thirty works on energy and minerals issues and has an honours degree in economics from the University of Sydney, and  a masters degree in economics from the Australian National University.

Martin  Parkinson

Dr Parkinson was appointed as Secretary to the newly created Department of Climate Change on 3 December 2007.
 
Prior to his appointment he worked as the Deputy Secretary of the Climate Change Group in the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet with responsibility for leading and coordinating implementation of the emissions trading scheme and coordinating climate change policy. This immediately followed his work as Head of the Secretariat to the Task Group on Emissions Trading.

Dr Parkinson previously spent six years as Executive Director (Deputy Secretary) in the Treasury with responsibility for all domestic and international macroeconomic issues. He was Australia's G-20, IMFC and Development Committee Deputy and Co-chair of the G 20 Deputies process in 2006. He has also worked at the International Monetary Fund where he headed a unit dealing with issues related to the reform of the international financial architecture. Prior to joining the IMF, he headed Treasury's economic conditions branch, with responsibility for analysing economic developments and preparing the official forecasts for the domestic economy and external accounts.
In the early 1990s Dr Parkinson served as Senior Adviser to Treasurer Dawkins; he also worked for Treasurers Kerin and Willis. During his Treasury career he also worked on taxation reform, structural policy, and labour market and industrial relations policy issues. He is a member of the advisory board of the Centre for Applied Macroeconomic Analysis at the Australian National University and has previously served as a member of the Australian Statistics Advisory Council and of the advisory boards of the School of Economics at the University of Adelaide and the Centre for Business Cycle Analysis at the Melbourne Institute. In the mid 1990s he also served as a committee member of the Review of the Australian National Accounts Program.

Dr Parkinson holds a Ph.D from Princeton University, a M.Ec from the Australian National University and a B.Ec (Hons) from the University of Adelaide. He has published articles on macroeconomics, labour markets, international economic governance and economic integration in Asia, in the Journal of Political Economy, the American Economic Review, the European Economic Review, and elsewhere.

David Reid

David Reid is Principal Research Engineer with the CSIRO Mining Automation group. During the last thirteen years with CSIRO David has undertaken research and development of new and emerging technologies which have contributed to advances in mining automation. He has led the research teams which developed the enabling technologies for the successful Landmark longwall automation project. These project outcomes are now an essential production tool at a number of Australian longwall mines and are being taken up by international equipment manufacturers.

His research focus is in the development of inertial navigation systems for guidance of underground mining machinery and the application of industrial information and control networks for mining automation.

David holds a degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering and a PhD from Queensland University of Technology.

Prof John Rolfe

Central Queensland University

John Rolfe is a resource economist who is Professor in the Faculty of Business and Law of the Central Queensland University at Rockhampton.  John has a number of research interests, but specialises in agricultural production issues, resource tradeoffs, and economic impact assessment in regional areas. He currently is Director of the Centre for Environmental Management at Central Queensland University, and is also a member of the Institute for Sustainable Regional Development.
 
John has more than 75 refereed publications in the form of journal articles, book chapters, book reviews and conference papers, and a further 160 non-refereed journal articles, conference papers and research reports. John has led a number of major research projects (> 30) over the past 10 years for a total funding value of more than $2.5M. He has a background in agriculture and operated a cattle property in the Central Queensland region for a number of years.

Shane Stephan

Shane was appointed to this position in December 2007 having formerly held the position of Chief Financial Officer and, prior to that, Vice President – Strategy and Corporate Development. He is responsible for all commercial aspects of the business including treasury, finance and financial reporting.

Shane has more than 19 years of coal mining industry experience including senior line management roles, experience as the District Inspector of Mines in Queensland and as a member of the Coal Industry Health and Safety Advisory Council in Queensland. Shane was also previously employed as an executive in the structured and corporate finance divisions of an international investment bank.

Dominique Van Gent

WA Coal Futures Group

Dominique Van Gent is the Regional Programs Manager with the Department of Industry and resources in Western Australia. He was educated in Perth and has a Masters degree in Literature and Communication and a Master of Business Administration. For the last twenty five years he has lived and worked in Bunbury, Western Australia.

For many years Dominique worked in Regional Development assisting the resources industry on major projects, on the development of industrial areas and on infrastructure issues. Dominique also played a major role in establishing a local content project that maximised opportunities for regional firms on the construction of the Collie power station and other projects. He is currently chairman of the Bunbury-Wellington Small Business Centre.

The Western Australian State Government established the Coal Futures Group in December 2005 to increase opportunities for the coal mining industry in Western Australia. Dominique was appointed as an original member of that Group and in July 2006 assumed the role of Executive Officer, essentially becoming the Western Australian “Coal Advocate”.

Frank van Schagen

Cooperative Research Centre for Coal in Sustainable Development (CCSD)

Prior to taking up his current position in August 2001 as Chief Executive Officer of the Cooperative Research Centre for Coal in Sustainable Development – CCSD, Frank built a 33 year career (1968-2001) within the Queensland State government in natural resource management. His last position (1997-2001) was Executive Director Natural Resource Sciences, Department of Natural Resources Mines, a 400 person group that provided the research, development and technical support services for the department’s role of the sustainable use of the natural resources (land, water and vegetation).

The Cooperative Research Centre for Coal in Sustainable Development (CCSD), has its expertise in coal research directed at:
• Improving understanding of the place of coal in the transition to sustainable development in a changing world;
• Improving economic and environmental performance of current technologies;
• Reducing the risk inherent in adopting emerging clean coal technologies; and
• Identifying an appropriate transition path and supporting the development of policies for coal use.

CCSD is one of the Australian government’s Cooperative Research Centre Programme’s 68 centres formed as partnerships between Australian industry and research organisations.  CCSD has 6 research partners, 13 industry partners and a number of national and international collaborations (in Japan, US and Europe)

Jonathan’s career in the coal industry began in 1985 as a trainee at Port Waratah Coal Services. Jonathan graduated from Newcastle University in 1987 and moved to the Upper Hunter Valley where he gained several years experience with Muswellbrook Coal Company. He moved to Singleton in 1989 to join Warkworth Mine which was managed by Peabody Resources.

In 1999 he moved to Queensland as part of the Peabody management team involved in the purchase of Moura Mine.  In 2001 Jonathan was offered a management role with Rio Tinto and returned to Newcastle on secondment back to Port Waratah Coal Services.

In January 2008 Jonathan set up his own consultancy practice to take up the independent role of General Manager, Hunter Valley Coal Chain Logistics Team
 

 
Gary Webb

Newcastle Ports Corporation

Gary was appointed Chief Executive Officer of Newcastle Port Corporation in October 2004.

Gary commenced working in the Port of Newcastle in 1974 and has worked in the other three major ports of Sydney, Botany Bay and Port Kembla.  In 1982 he joined the NSW Department of TAFE and returned to the Port of Newcastle in 1989.

Gary has an honours degree in Surveying from the University of New South Wales, is a Registered Surveyor and has had extensive experience in port planning and development as well as port construction and incident management.

Gary is a Director of Newcastle Port Corporation, a Director of the Hunter Institute Foundation and a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.  He is Vice President of Ports Australia and a member of the Australian Maritime Safety Authority Advisory Committee, the University of Newcastle’s Centre for Brain and Mental Health Research Advisory Board and the Australian Logistics Council.

In 2007 Gary was awarded the Inaugural Outstanding Service Award from the NSW Board of Surveying and Spatial Information. Gary is the City of Newcastle 2008 Australia Day Citizen of the Year.

Mr Cui Xiaofei is currently the Managing Director of Sinosteel Australia Pty Ltd which is based in Perth, Western Australia.   Mr Cui has over 10 years experience in the Steel & raw material Industry.  He has previously held positions with our head office Sinosteel Corporation in Beijing with the Accounts Department, Sales Department of Steel Products and was Project Manager for the Investment & Subsidiary Administration Department.  Mr Cui graduated with a bachelor degree in Economics, a Diploma in Accounting and a diploma in International Trade from the Northeastern University, P.R. China.
