Dr. Vencatachellum is a citizen of Mauritius and holds a Ph.D. in economics from Queen’s university (Canada). He joined the faculty of the Business School of the University of Montreal in 1994 and was promoted to the rank of full professor in June 2005. Désiré joined the Research Division of the African Development Bank in September 2005 as Principal Research Economist. Dr. Vencatachellum is currently the task manager for the research program of the AfDB on capital market development in Africa and is also working on the aid allocation mechanism to the regional member countries of the AfDB. Dr. Vencatachellum is a seasoned a speaker in many high level meetings on harnessing Africa’s potential for its development. He has published extensively on economic growth, natural resources and the role of the financial sector in Africa.

Dr. (Mrs.) Cecilia Ibru holds a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) Degree in Sociology from North East London University and a Masters of Philosophy from the London school of Oriental and African studies.
She commenced her career at the IBRU Organisation in 1978 where she held various positions.
In 1990, she joined Oceanic Bank as General Manager, Admin and Personnel later becoming Executive Director, Finance and Administration.
Cecilia Ibru became the bank’s Managing Director /CEO in 1997. She is chairperson, Sub-committee of the Bankers’ Committee on Small and Medium Investment Equity Scheme (SMIEIS) Member, Presidential Consultative Committee on SMIEIS, Member World Economic Forum. She is a Fellow Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria and Fellow Nigeria Institute of Management.
In recognition of her numerous contributions to the development of Banking in Nigeria, the Federal Government of Nigeria honoured her with the award of Member of the Federal Republic (MFR).

Dr. Udaia Kumar is the Founder, Managing Director of ‘Share Microfin Limited’ the largest Micro finance program in India. Dr. Kumar is also a founding member of ‘Sa-Dhan’ and ‘INDNET’, which are active Micro finance networks. Dr. Kumar has pioneered the concept of Micro finance in Andhra Pradesh. At present these SHARE Group institutions provide financial services without any collateral, to about 1.24 million families disbursing over US$ 748 million in loans with a portfolio of about US$ 127 million. Dr. Kumar is a Post graduate in Commerce with a Masters Degree in Business Administration and a Doctorate (Ph.D) in finance and management. He has studied Micro finance at the University of Colorado, USA and Development Studies from the University of Birmingham, United Kingdom. He has expertise on Development administration, Poverty Alleviation, Women’s empowerment and mainstreaming people’s empowerment in local governance, Micro finance and Project Management. He is a development finance specialist in general and Micro finance specialist in particular with work experience of over 25 years. He has provided extensive technical training and consultancy services in the field of Micro finance to NGOs and Micro Finance Institutions in India and Southeast Asia. He has been a consultant for Asian Development Bank, World Bank (CGAP) and Australian Government (Ausaid).
He is a member of CII-Banking Committee for the year 2006 and the present member of the committee constituted by Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation, Government of India to review the status of Housing Finance in India. He was the member of Task Force Committee constituted by the Reserve Bank of India and Prime Minister’s Office on Micro finance. He is the recipient of several awards, including the “Lifting up the World with Oneness–Heart” award presented by the U.N Peace Foundation in New York City, “Change Makers Award” by Dr.Reddy’s Foundation, and “Excellency in Micro Credit” award presented by the Rockefeller Foundation and GF-USA for his pioneering contribution in the field of Development finance and financial inclusion.

Edward Leach started his career as a Chartered Accountant at KMPG. Thereafter he spent 10 year at the South African Reserve Bank, first as Financial Accountant, then as part of Bank Supervision and completing his time at the Bank as part of the National Payment System Department being part of the team that was responsible to create the Strategic Framework for the South African National Payment System and implementation of the SAMOS (South African RTGS) system.
Edward then joined Perago as one of the founding members and during the 8 years at Perago was involved in various Financial Market Infrastructure projects, notable the implementation of RTGS (Real Time Gross Settlement) systems in Malawi, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Uganda, Sweden, Norway and Egypt.
Edward joined SWIFT in January 2008 as head of the office in Johannesburg, responsible for SWIFT sales and marketing in 27 countries in Africa.

A professional career spanning over 15 years and experienced in the field of Risk, Legal & Compliance and Credit Risk Management.
Experience has been acquired in various Top 100 companies in South Africa such as PG Glass, the leading glass company in the country and Afrox, an Industrial Gas and Healthcare company.
A banking background, at Management level and Senior Management level for a few financial institutions such as African Bank, the leading Micro lender in SA, as well as Nedbank and First Rand Group, two of the four Big Banks in South Africa.
Currently employed as the Head: Risk Management for Teba Bank. He responsible for ensuring that the bank wide risks are identified evaluated effectively and efficiently managed and accordingly reported.
Charles is one of the much sought after speakers in Risk Management today both locally and internationally
Armed with qualifications in Credit Risk Management, he also holds a Bachelor of Commerce Degree as well as currently reading for his LLB degree through the University of South Africa.

Bryan McLachlan has over 16 years experience in the financial services industry. Much of this time has been spent taking new products, channels or innovations to market, facilitating change in the organisation or in Marketing roles. He is currently the Head of Transaction and Investment Products at Nedbank. Key areas of responsibility include Transactional Products, Savings and Investment Products, Retail Foreign Exchange and Retail Pricing. He has previously worked at NBS, Woolworths, Old Mutual and FNB. He has an Honors degree in Commerce and is currently nearing completion of a Masters degree in Commerce at the University of Johannesburg.

Ziyaad Mahomed has been involved in training for the approximately 10 years. He is currently the founder and CEO of IFISA, the only dedicated Islamic Finance Training institute on the continent of Africa and has lectured widely throughout South Africa.
He has authored the study material used for distance learning at the Institute including a booklet on Islamic Insurance. He has also co-authored 8 study guides on Mathematics, Science and Accounting.

Dave cut his teeth in the micro-finance industry when he joined Unity Financial Services in 1997. Later he became a shareholder and the operational manager of Unity Financial Services (Pty) Ltd. The shareholding of Unity was later sold to Sanlam, Theta and Boland Bank. Eventually 100% was sold to Theta investments, which already owned other micro finance companies: King and Altfin. Later, Unity, King and Altfin were merged with the old African Bank under the African Bank brand and Theta then changed its listed name to African Bank Investments Limited. Dave was instrumental in merging the operations of the then over 300 branches; he held senior management posts in African Bank until he left in 2001 to begin Blue. Dave established Blue based on concepts, experience and research done in the micro-finance industry.
