The concept
The Antibodies market in Asia is HUGE!

The world monoclonal antibody market is the fastest growing sector; it is growing rapidly in Asia with a predicted market size of at least $200 million in Asia. The favorable regulatory climate and mechanism that facilitates accelerated approval provides an attractive landscape for the development and production of innovative therapeutic antibodies in Asia for both the unique Asia market as well as the global market.

With its high target specificity, monoclonal antibodies is one of the most popular methods for diagnosis and treatment of various cancers as it offers reduced toxicity and side effects. The rate of growth of the Asian cancer market is increasing rapidly, with current rates of growth outstripping the average growth rate primarily driven by increasing trends in the prevalence of breast, uterine, colorectal and lung cancer across the Asian region.

Asia is set to becoming the world's largest market for Antibodies in coming years!

Opportunities and challenges

The world's monoclonal antibody market is expected to triple to $30.3 billion by 2010, 20% of new molecules in the approval pipeline at USFDA are monoclonal antibodies, the big pharma licensed 70% of their research molecules from small and medium biotech companies and there is a huge unmet medical need of life-threatening diseases.

In Asia, leading biopharmaceutical and biotech companies are joining the race to develop therapeutic antibodies:

- Biocon, Dr Reddy’s Laboratories, Panacea Biotech, Shantha Biotech and many
other elusive Indian biotechs are actively seeking partnership across the globe for innovative
therapeutic molecules for potential in-licensing opportunities.

- BioTech Pharmaceutical, a high tech joint venture between China and Cuba, has successfully
developed the first recombinant humanized monoclonal antibody for cancer treatment.

- Welson Pharmaceutical, China Pharmaceutical, Helpson Biopharma and many emerging
innovative China biotechs such as Human Antibodomics  are leveraging on its vast pool of talent
to penetrate into the therapeutic antibody market

- Korean Aprogen, ISU Chemicals are aggressively building up capabilities in developing
innovative therapeutic antibody to become the leader of therapeutic antibody development

- A&G Pharmaceutical and Celltrion entered into an agreement for clinical production of a novel
  A&G theranostic monoclonal antibody

- The largest pharmaceutical company in Japan, Takeda Pharmaceutical Company Limited
established a new company for therapeutic antibody research in San Francisco.

- Astella, Chugai and Eisai Pharmaceuticals are actively seeking partnerships worldwide to
participate in the race for the therapeutic antibody development in this lucrative market.

However, the technology and innovation gap, IP, financial and information barriers in Asia are limiting their growth.

Asia Antibody Congress 2008 is a timely platform to bring together major leading industry players in Asia-Pacific to meet the world's leading innovative antibody developers to leverage on the region's potential in developing next generation therapeutic antibody, riding on the waves of cost-effective innovation and increasing talent pool in Asia, with the return of Asia scientific professionals and clinicians from Europe, USA and worldwide.

Your show!

Many companies are seeing the potential and adapting their resources and technologies to fulfill the booming need of the Asian market.
