The Hong Kong Sustainable Development Forum (HKSDF) was founded in September 1998, and formally registered as a society under the Societies Ordinance in Hong Kong on 28 February 2001. HKSDF is a non-profit organisation - an entirely private sector initiative.
Established to respond to the ongoing absence of consensus, consultation and engagement of all stakeholders for Sustainable Development HKSDF was the first NGO in Hong Kong to focus exclusively on Sustainable Development in Hong Kong, leading the field well before Sustainable Development became a recognised concept in Hong Kong.
HKSDF is pro-business - Without business, especially SME business, Hong Kong would not be the vibrate centre of commerce it is today. Society, Environment and Development are the three principal tenants of Sustainable Development.
HKSDF actively encourages, and welcomes, the participation of all the business, consumer action groups, and the government to build a better, more sustainable future. It is styled on similar government and non government appointed forums like the United States President’s Council on Sustainable Development, the British Government Panel on Sustainable Development and the Canadian Roundtable.
