Calum joined CRU in 2005 following a career spent as a research scientist and technical consultant. In his current role he has responsibility for CRU’s research into steel making raw materials and cost studies, including the scrap and metallics markets. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Geophysics from the University of Edinburgh and a PhD and MBA from Cambridge University.

Murat Bayram, General Manager, Import & Export, TSR Recycling, Germany
Mr. Murat Bayram has been active in the recycling business for 12 years. After finishing his bachelor studies of business administration he successfully completed an additional masters program of international management studies, for which he attained several national awards. His main field of knowledge is the international finance and more specifically the risk minimization of the non ferrous markets by the use of hedging.
At the moment he is in charge of the import and export department of TSR Recycling GmbH & Co KG and also coordinates the non ferrous business of the TSR group with more than 85 storage locations.

Worked for Reed Elsevier Business Publications as editor of the Dutch recycling magazine ‘Magazine Recycling Benelux’ and the German publication ‘Recycling Magazine’.
In 1997, I launched ‘Recycling International’, an international publication for the worldwide recycling business with currently readers in 125 countries, of which I have been Publisher and Editor since.

William Bremner, President, Behr Iron & Steel Corporation, USA
Mr. Bremner joined Behr Iron & Steel in 1978, was named Vice President – Brokerage in 1984, and promoted to President of the Corporation in 1991.
Since 1991, Mr. Bremner has spearheaded the growth of Joseph Behr & Sons Inc. to one of the top 15 recycling companies in the United States, operating twelve locations in the Midwest. The company currently ships over 850,000 G.T. per year of steel, and over 90 million pounds of metals.
William Bremner resides in Rockford, Illinois with his wife and children. He has served on the boards of numerous organizations and civic concerns.

Peter Brookes, President Metal & Waste Recycling, British Metals Recycling, UK
Peter Brookes qualified as a Chartered Engineer, working for a car manufacturer prior to joining a scrap metal recycling company 20 years ago. He is currently a director of Metal and Waste Recycling, one of the four largest scrap metal recycling companies in the UK. In addition to metals recycling, Metal and waste Recycling Ltd now also recycles many other waste streams.
Peter has served on the main board of the British Metals Recycling Association for many years, and was appointed President just over two years ago.

Joe Caruso has more than 25 years of leadership experience in both consumer products and the metal recycling industry. Joe is a staunch proponent of the significant leadership role that business can play on environmental issues.
Joe oversees the operations and strategic direction of the company and is responsible for managing Triple M's vision for future growth. Joe has worked for Triple M for over 18 years, prior to which, he held a senior finance position with a global consumer goods company. Joe's leadership has been a catalyst in preparing the company for its next phase of outstanding performance and growth.

Amit Chatterjee, Advisor to MD, Tatasteel, India
Dr. Amit Chatterjee (62), is Adviser to the MD, Tata Steel Ltd. He superannuated from Tata Steel in 2004 but he is engaged by Tata Steel on an yearly contract basis.
Dr Chatterjee graduated in Metallurgical Engineering from Banaras Hindu University (BHU) in 1966 and obtained his Ph.D. and D.I.C.(Met) degrees from the very well known Imperial College of Science and Technology, London, in 1970. He then worked for two years in Thyssen, Germany, before he joined Tata Steel in mid 1972. He rose to the post of Jt.Director, R & D and in 1982, was ‘Seconded’ by Tata Steel to Ipitata Sponge Iron Limited for 5 years as its Managing Director. Ipitata was based on the Tisco Direct Reduction (TDR) process developed through Dr. Chatterjee’s sustained efforts spanning two decades.
Dr.Chatterjee was awarded the Doctor of Science (Engg), by the University of London in 1988 for his outstanding work on coal based direct reduction and oxygen steelmaking. He has received several honours, including the National Metallurgist Award in 1977, Visvesvaraya Gold Medal in 1981 and 1996, SAIL Gold Medal in 1982, Bhoruka Gold Medal in 1992, The Sydney Gilchrist Thomas Medal of the Institute of Materials, London in 1994, Application to Practice Award of TMS (USA) for 1997, Distinguished Alumnus Award of Banaras Hindu University, Tata Gold Medal, Distinguished Metallurgist Award for the year 2000 by The Institution of Engineers (India), and the Wharton Infosys Business Transformation Award in 2002. He has received the highest award of the Indian Institute of Metals – the Platinum Medal for the year 2002. He has also received a Special Award for Exemplary Contribution to Tata Search from Mr Ratan Tata. Dr Chatterjee was bestowed the Life Time Achievement Award by The Indian Institute of Mineral Engineers in January 2002, for his work in the field of mineral beneficiation.
Dr Chatterjee is a Fellow of The Institute of Materials, England, a Fellow of The Indian Institute of Metals, India, a Fellow of The Indian National Academy of Engineers, India, a Fellow of Imperial College, London, and a Chartered Engineer of The Engineering Council, England. Dr Chatterjee has been mentioned as one of the ‘Illustrious Alumni of Imperial College’ in its booklet ‘Imperial College, London – 100 Years of Living Science’.
Dr.Chatterjee has over 500 publications to his credit. He is the author of the highly acclaimed book entitled “Beyond the Blast Furnace”, which was published by CRC Press, USA, in 1993. He has authored another book entitled “Metallics for Steelmaking -- Production and Use” published by Allied Publishers Ltd., New Delhi. He is in the final stages of publishing two other books on ‘Ironmaking and Steelmaking – Theory and Practice’ and ‘Direct Reduction’.

Grandfather and father were both Trade Association Presidents. F.J.Church exports 95% of sales. The first exports were horseshoes to China in 1926.

Francois Dotta joined EuroFin Asia in September 2004 as a Business Development Manager where he is in charge of originating and structuring transactions in the region. Prior to joining the company, he worked as an auditor in PriceWaterhouseCoopers; and before that, a promotional marketing company in Madrid. Francois Dotta holds a Masters degree in Business and Administration from the Asian Institute of Technology of Bangkok (major in international business and minor in finance) and a Masters in Management from the CERAM Sophia-Antipolis Business School in France.

A Metallurgical Engineer by profession, I started my career with Tata Steel Jamshedpur as a Graduate Trainee. I am a hard core production man with experience in Rolling mills, Strip Mill and Hot Strip Mill and later on was given the responsibility of services like inbound logistics, material handling, maintenance of all locos and cranes and even outbound logistics.
Then I moved on to Ispat Industries and have been handling Raw Material procurement. I have attended many national as well as international conferences and seminars all across the globe.

Kees Gerretse started his career in the Royal Navy and Royal Marines. After 13 years service, Kees took up a position in the private sector working for Total oil & gas company. Scott Horne, VP of Government Relations & General Council, ISRI, USA
Scott Horne is Vice President of Government Affairs and General Counsel for the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries (ISRI) in Washington, DC. As such, Scott is responsible for all of ISRI’s legal activities as well as the management of ISRI’s Government Affairs group, which is the advocate for the private sector recycling industry and which also provides extensive compliance guidance for its members on a wide variety of issues including occupational health and safety, the environment, transportation, and international trade. He has played a leading role in ISRI’s efforts to help develop trade with China and India and has provided extensive guidance to recyclers on dealing with those countries. He has also worked closely with the governments of both countries to assure that their legal and regulatory regimes are rational and pragmatic as they apply to the imports of scrap materials. Scott has also represented ISRI at meetings of the Basel Convention on the Transboundary Movement of Hazardous Wastes and Their Disposal, the OECD’s Working Group on Waste Management Policy and the G8’s Ministerial on the 3Rs. He has a total of thirty years experience in the scrap recycling industry including fifteen years of hands on experience operating scrap processing facilities in Maryland and Virginia. Previously, Scott served as ISRI’s Associate Counsel and Director of State and Local Programs, coordinating the legislative and regulatory activities of the ISRI chapters at the state and local level. He developed ISRI’s programs designed to educate its membership on the ISO 9000 (Quality Management Systems) and ISO 14000 (Environmental Management Systems) standards. He is a former member of the US Technical Advisory Group (TAG) to Technical Committee 207 of the International Organization for Standardization ("ISO"), which developed the ISO 14000 standards and participated in the Legal Issues Forum of the TAG.

Mr. T Munro is the founder and Managing Director of Metalcorp NZ Limited in Christchurch, New Zealand. His experience in the scrap metal recycling industry spans over 25 years, and his passion for the industry is evident in every project he undertakes. A well known spokesperson for the New Zealand metal recycling industry, he has addressed many national conferences and given numerous seminars on the industry.
His recent roles have included assisting with the establishment of scrap metal recycling operations in a number of localities within the Pacific Island Group. He is also a long serving select committee member for the New Zealand Road Transport Association and is the Chairman of the Sector Advisory Group for the establishment of a National Qualification frame work to be tailored specifically for the scrap metal industry within New Zealand.
He continues to manage his own company, and he is the current President of the Scrap Metal Recycling Association of New Zealand; a role he has served in unchallenged for the past six years. He leads the national body in advocating for the New Zealand industry.

Ah Yong Tan, Secretary General, South East Asia Iron and Steel Institute, Thailand
Mr. Tan Ah Yong is the Secretary General of the South East Asia Iron and Steel Institute (SEAISI) with its office in Shah Alam, Selangor, Malaysia. He assumed the position in January 2007. Prior to this, he was the Deputy Director General of the Malaysian Industrial Development Authority (MIDA), the government’s principal agency for the promotion and coordination of industrial development in Malaysia. He has extensive knowledge on industrial promotion and development strategies and was closely involved with the promotion and development of the iron and steel industry in Malaysia. He had also served for many years in the United States promoting and facilitating US direct investment into Malaysia.
Mr. Tan holds a Bachelor of Economics (Honors) Degree majoring in Business Administration from the University of Malaya. He is also a member of the Malaysian Institute of Accountants.
