“The property market has been booming for several years now… but I think it will still grow, particularly as many fast developing countries in the region have still not satisfied their own market demand in some sectors.”
Akram Abu Hamdan, Director General, Mawared, Jordan
The Middle East is going through an impressive economic invigoration, particularly in the real estate sector, which has witnessed rapid growth with excellent returns on investment.
Real estate projects currently under execution in the GCC, Iran and Iraq have exceeded $697 billion (AED2.55 trillion), according to a business information agency in the Middle East. The UAE accounts for about 32%, or $223.79 billion (AED821.3 billion) of this. The Dubai government expects AED 184 billion in real estate investment by the year 2010.
The boom in the real estate market has been largely attributed to the continuous repatriation of Arab funds from overseas and increasing liquidity supported by soaring oil revenue. An inflow of investments, which usually would have been invested in more traditional markets, have been finding their way to the Middle East.
In order for the region’s real estate sector to grow as a international standard, best in class investment destination, there needs to be vibrant secondary market with innovative products to cope with the needs of investors - institutional and individuals.
