The newly consolidated entity, the South African Rail Commuter Corporation - Metrorail (SARCC-Metrorail) is an agency of the Department of Transport responsible for the provision of commuter rail services in South Africa. It has also custodianship of all commuter rail assets such as land in and around stations, infrastructure and rolling stock. Through its wholly owned subsidiary formed in 1992, Intersite Property Management Services (PTY) Ltd, manages SARCC-Metrorail’s property portfolio by building new stations and continually upgrading ones needing revamp.
