Masterclass 2 - Friday 29 June 2007

Successful Railway Maintenance Management Planning

08.30Registration

09.00Masterclass commences

Although maintenance is expensive, it will become more expensive to replace the failing equipment early in its life because maintenance has been neglected. Railway maintenance should result in optimising the lifecycle costs of particular assets, whilst maintaining risk at a level that is as low as is reasonably practicable. This requires a detailed knowledge of your infrastructure and system requirements.

Objective

The privatisation of many of Africa's railway networks have resulted in the need for new maintenance requirements especially with regard to maintenance costs and railway availability. An essential ingredient in the successful running of railways is a well maintained system. This masterclass explores methods of ensuring optimal rail maintenance of systems used in modern train maintenance. This masterclass introduces an integrated methodology to organising the maintenance of rail infrastructure and optimising life-cycle costs.

Key masterclass elements include:

  • Finding the key drivers for effective railway maintenance
  • Exploring the future of maintenance planning
  • Infrastructure reliability optimisation strategy
  • Considerations in structures maintenance
  • Considerations in signal maintenance
  • Impact of new technology
  • Heavy haul rail developments
  • Impact of improved processes
  • Best practice fundamental requirements for railway asset
    management
